is it my car or does anyone else polo gti, whine or have a buzzing sound when its decelerating on its own or sometimes accelerating? If so, anyone know what it is. I know some people with mk 4 golf which does the same?
It cant be the clutch or gearbox cause we all got the same thing changed and still get same sound?!

I have the same problem.
The noise is intermitant, but occurs after changing gear, or on engine breaking.
This has only just started after I had a VW service. They claim it isn't them as they have done nothing that could have casued this, but its funny

that the car was perfect before VW got their hands on it.

I've had this since I've owned the car. It sounds to me like it comes from the engine somewhere drivers side, like a buzzing noise on deceleration. I presumed it was normal.

I wondered if it was not fuel cutting off completely, perhaps something to do with the potentiometers?

Sounds like I've got that problem.
I start the car and sitting in idle i dont hear this wining noise.
Then i start off in first gear, and I get up to 25mph and i hear this wining noise. i still hear it all through the gears. when i put my foot on the clutch and let go of the accellerator it sounds a little higher the noise.
Anything after 60mph i dont hear the noise coz the engine noise kicks in.
If I'm on a lower speed, say 40mph and I take the car out of gear, the noise goes. Put it back in gear and it comes back.
The clutch pedel is stiff (more stiffer than my friends GTi) and there's about an inch or so of looseness in the pedal before the clutch kicks in.
I've had VW look at it (they quoted me 1600 for gearbox take out/swapout+new clutch). Mr Clutch can't work it out and nor can another garage.
My dad reckons its the springs from the clutch disk thats gone loose.
Weird, its been bugging me for ages.
