Hi guys just introducing myself and my car
2 weeks ago i bought a Polo gti in black, it was 100% standard apart from black alloys due to them corroding and being refurbed.
it has a large dent in the boot where someone has kicked it but it will be sorted soon. The progress pictures start tomorrow. so please look in and leave feedback or suggestions
My main plan for the car is the 1.8 20v T conversion with the BAM engine and have already started gathering parts, i will post up the spec i want it up to soon and im sure i will have lots of questions for you guys as i will be attempting most of this conversion myself.
Now for a few pictures of it standard and how i recived it
Cheers
Chris

Welcome to uk-polos Chris!
Its a tidy little GTI you have got there. Very good for what you have planned. Your project sounds very interesting. Ill be keeping a close eye on the conversion for sure

Cheers mate, its a smart car you have as well, i like your wheels i may have to pick some up, but with the conversion i am trying to keep the look of the car 100% standard where possible, no stupid ammounts of lowering, optimum handeling ride height instead of stupidly low, not that it doesnt look good just not my scene same go's for exhausts and stuff, keeping it silent as possible, pure sleeper

Hi mate, no i think i will get the phirm to do the conversion as they are closest to me, im guessing you have the BAM engine as well then? i will need your advice on a few issues i have in my mind if thats ok???
What engine mounts did you use? Did you get them made up specially?
What drive shafts are you using, i have source a gearbox (apparently very rare) its a 6 speed either an 02a or 02j 2 pinion box, i have been told that using this box i can use ibiza 20v turbo driveshafts eliminating the need for custom drive shafts? not sure on your knowledge of all of this but any help would be great.

tbh i dont have much idea on what bits were used. it was basically a drive in drive out conversion lol. but i no that mk7 polo gti shafts were used and some custom mounts.

Well i worried as to what box to use, the option i found was a rare 6 speed allowing me to use ibiza 20v turbo driveshafts without any custom work being done, and i may still do this idea but the polo box is another option thanks to your information, now i will have a look and compare the boxes ratios and final drives etc to see which is best to suit my platform.
Im probably going to get the custom mounts fabricated as i no a custom welder and then do the conversion unwired, then i have a friend who is one of the best VW ecu mappers i have seen and can work magic with wiring so i will leave him to get it all up and running, i will be using standalone ECU obviously (still need to decide which is best for me) have launch control and boost controller and as many features as i can cram in on my budget.
I think alot of people want to attempt the conversion themselve but dont have a clue where to start, I was thinking about using my car as a base and replicating part like custom mounts, drive shaft/gearbox combinations wiring diagram for the 20v to 6N2, Charge pipes, any custom hoses etc etc so in theory you could have an off the shelf conversion ''Kit'' that you could attempt doing the conversion yousrself saving money on labour etc. I no its taking away the glory from specialist VW garages but it would be an alot cheaper alternative. Would you guys be interested in a kit like that and how much of a market do you think there is??
