I know thats a VERY bad picture (which I admit I made with publsher, lol), but those are the wheels I want (they won't be white as that either, lol) The wheels are 16 inch 'Montreal 2' off the latest Golf GTi 1.8T.

These are the wheels I wanted (BBS RS2 wheels, option on GTi Golf) but I didn't really fancy paying £310 (inc VAT) at cost for them...



My friends are holding me to my word that this will be all done by September (so wheels, suspension, colour coding and ecu remap), lots of £££ but it'll be worth it by the looks of it

Have a bit of a dilemma though

Basically, its the warranty (again!). I can fit standard sports springs (which will lower the vehicle by 20 mil) which will probably mean I'll also get away without notifying the insurance company
OR, I can order a VW Germany approved lowering kit (25-30 mil) and void the warranty on the suspension

Don't ask me how that works If VW Germany think its safe why can't VAG UK!!

Anyway, what should I do? Go 20 mil and sit standard. Or go for the German kit (which will make it look as nice as that pic )

I thought pretty much anything could be done with the warranty intact, so long as you get a main dealer to install it (and pay their labour costs).

Do you mean the parts for the VW "sports suspension" option? If so, I haven't noticed any significant drop, just a firmer ride and more immediate steering.

If you want others to notice that it's been dropped, I'd go for this.

if -30 is gunna void your warrenty then id not bother and get a real kit so you can see the drop cos and feel a hge diference cos ive driven polos like mine with the sport option and they dont hold the road any where like mine
+ when they say void the warenty they might only mean on any suspension related part cos my dealer did that when i started, we agreed that any part that i had fitted which could cause another oem party to faail would void the warenty on the failed part i.e. i fitted a new headunit but when my plugs died they replaced them but if i killed a speaker then it would not be covered

I've got a mark 5 polo and I lowered my car 30mm on Eibach springs my warrenty finishes in May! However I've had lots of jobs done through the warrenty and had no trouble! Cora

Instead of the Golf alloys, have you looked at fitting TT ones? the 18'' Multi-spokes look cool (and a replica set costs £999 inc tyres) or the 17'' 5 spokes would look mint. I personally think the 18s would look the nuts, i'll get some pics so you know what i mean

Just a quick question, can you get springs that will lower the Polo any more than 35 mil? I'd like the lower it 40 mil on springs and put a lower profile tyre on it the lowering aint a waste of time.

The difference in 40 and 35 mm isn't noticeable, and even if you get 35mm springs, you could end up with a drop of anywhere from -25mm to -50mm. It just depends on manufacturer, type of spring, model of car, mods, a/c, diesel or petrol... It's just too hard to predict exactly where the chassis will end up. So if the 40mm kit will void your warrenty and the 35mm will not, the choice is simple.

Yeh what Speedlaw is saying is right, it's never going to be an exact drop. Which I don't spose helps you decide does it?!

The solution is easy and cheap. Pop down to Wickes buy a few bags of sand fill up the boot until you get the desired effect.
