Hey Jamie,
I've got mine booked to have H&R springs installed later this week, like you I would have prefered coilovers but the thought of a hole in my wallet kind of put me off...
Josh has had H&R springs and he's found them to have improved the handling very well whilst also improving the looks. I'll post something once I've had mine uprated...watch this space!

Harry, point taken, I saw your posting for your H&R coilovers but even used I couldn't really justify cost! (excluding the fitting!). I think the springs are an acceptable compromise between cost and handling...I think I'll see how these new springs are and then next time I have some more cash I will upgrade to coilovers.
Jamie, JBS couldn't fit H&R to my car, apparently they have had this problems before with other GTIs so in the end they fitted me Eibach ones, the same drop in height and I believe the same quality too. I've taken some pictures of my car before but can't really take any right now as the springs take some time to settle to the correct height...James @ JBS suggested some hard driving and throwing it into some roundabouts to soften them up! (no problem!) as soon as they have settled I'll take the 'after'photos and post them up.
Having said that, even though they haven't settled I have already noticed the drop in height, I seem to feel closer to the ground, the gaping hole between wheel and arch has minimised and being a short-arse I certainly can appreciate now being able to wash my roof properly without having to tip-toe!
Whilst the wheels were taken off, Kev (the mechanic) noticed that a couple of my wheel bolts had stretched (is that the correct term?) and replaced them at no cost...which is great and saves my wheel from falling off!

sounds good mate, keep me updated and lets see those before and after shots!!
and when its settled please let me know the measurement between the front spoiler lip and the ground. (V important for me so i can fit in my drive
so why didnt the H&Rs fit? thought they were made for the GTI?
Cheers

Hey Jamie,
Sorry, I've not taken any photos afterwards yet and not measured the distance too. To be honest I'm not sure how long I should wait for the springs to 'settle'! Does anyone have any ideas, what I am worried about is that this is the maximum height drop already, although the handling has been tightened I wouldn't mind if it looked a bit as it had been lowered, catch my drift? (can't believe I used that!).
I'll try and get some photos later on this week and post them next weekend. Hope thats satisfactory for now!
Oh, they said that they had a problem fitting the H&R, they didn't go into the specifics, whether they were not aligned or what, they said that they had this problem with Josh's motor but I told them that they had managed to fit H&R and they told me that Josh's are Eibach...which puzzled me no end...either way I've got it lowered and I'm pleased with the results so I'm not too fussed!

Jamie,
The results are in! Photos attached below, the first two are the before shots the final one was the one taken today, a couple of weeks after they were fitted, sorry the quality ain't too great but I chose the better ones out of the few I took and tried to get ones that showed the difference...
What do you think? The front of the car, from the spoiler to the ground is about 6 inches so I would have thought that this would be enough to clear your driveway. Bear in mind that the H&R ones are 5mm lower and so may make a little diffence.
Before...

After...
So whats the verdict everyone? can you spot the difference?

Hi mate
Looking good!
The front end of your car has lowered LOADS! Just the rear that's still a bit high.
I spoke to James again today and he said for you to contact him and that he doesn't bite... If you're not totally happy, go and see him or call him up and he'll make sure you're 100% happy. That's what they're there for!
Either that, or stick a big sub in the back like I've done!!
lol
But seriously, give them a call about the rear being high... If you don't, I'll be upset!!

Gave James a call, he suggested that I shove some people in the back or some sandbags and drive around for a couple of hours.
I couldn't find any people (got no friends!) but found a load of old limestone rubble in the parking area of my flat and so lined my boot with bin liners and filled it up as much as possible...had a quick drive afterwards and just wish I had my camera...it looks great, just wish it looks like that without the weight! Going to keep it in there for a few days so hopefully that should bed in my springs properly...
Looked well dodgy when moving the rubble into the boot...hope none of the neighbours saw me!
