Possible solution for gearbox troubles?

Not sure exactly what the problem is with the 6n2 gti boxes that makes them so bad..so not sure if this actually will help but its worth a try!
A few big turbo boys over on SCN have got their boxes stripped and cryogenically treated, apparently it makes the metal far more resistant etc..
Considering one of these guys is running over 600bhp @ the wheels from a 1.8T box i thought i would be worth sharing...

a few were saying it costs around £225 for the whole box including casing to be treated...which could be a bargain in the long run..

I thought the only problem with GTI boxes were faulty bearings. Could be wrong though.

Its bad design... The standard bearings are pretty good.... they just have too much load put on them... That, and a non metal bearing on 5th gear does not help.....VW tried to use what is basically a box designed for 70hp.... in a car with 125hp...and a LOT more torque.... all they did was change the ratios....
The rivets that hold the diff halves together also have a tendancy of sheering in half thus launching bits of metal through the gearbox... usually results in things escaping the gearbox at speed.....
Metal fatigue in the rotating components is not an issue... So "chryo-whatever is it" freezing would do nothing apart form make them more prone to wear in the long term.... Gears in a gearbox are already seriously hard.....

Shantybeater... Sorry if my response this morning sounded a little harsh..... was having a rough time in the office lol...
I was laughing at the method they were suggesting from an engineering point of view..... not directly at you!
Its good that people (you) are thinking outside of the box looking for a solution to this frankly annoying problem!

No worries...do you reckon its a waste of time then? its just something i was considering (and a few have gone through with over on SCN) because the sort of power i'm hoping for its not uncommon to strip gears etc..

You wont strip gears in the polo..... The bearings and gearbox casing will fail first.....
IMHO... there is no way you will get anywhere near enough power from the GTI engine to even consider that process.....
Fit a 1.8T engine...... Easier, Cheaper....You know it makes sence....
