.... driving to my girlfriends house, most of the journey was ok. the drive was smooth. When i got into steatham, the car started to judder / hesitate when accelerating from standstill. I had to ride the clutch a little to make it go smooth.

I stopped at a petrol station for a couple minutes and left again. All was fine. I'm begginning to think the gearbox needs replacing.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Doesnt sound like Gearbox, is there any whining?

It could be Clutch or Flywheel, any ideas of when the clutch was done, and has the box been done previously?

i have no idea whether the gearbox / clutch have been replaced. Theres no paperwork to say they've been replaced...

wont be clutch or gearbox, sounds like an intermitent missfire what i have, cant seem to find the problem though

have you had yours vag-com'd yet? i did a little while ago (before any of these problems started) and found the following results. I havn't had a chance to clear them or anything yet

17978.Engine STart Blocked by Immobiler (which was highlighted)
16514.Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor B1 S1: Malfunction in Circuit
16555.Fuel Trim: System Too Lean: Bank 1
17511.Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor Heating: B1 S1 Performance too Low

Where can I find the lambda sensor on the car?

its on the manifold, its a metal type probe that is on the manifold, has a cable coming out of it, not sure where abouts it s on the gti but it is somewhere on the manifold, you cant miss it,

Its on the manifold same as the normals. if you look below the heat shield, you will see it on the right below all the coolant piping area

I've had this problem for a while too. only seems to be at low revs. Im going to replace the HT leads soon to see if thats the problem and one of my leads keeps working its way loose and you have to push it back dow to clip it on again. Only comes up about 2mm......but do VW still do the all red ones? I dont want pants looking black ones. Any Idea of price etc? cheers guys.

I just had to replace the leads on mine. They're about 14 each.

is that for the all red ones?! Do you have the numbers?!

IIRC they dont do Red leads anymore, stopped last year if you find a place that do do them Genuine ones, not cheap aftermarket ones let me know

They are red. Actually the garage did it for me (long story short, they split one of them whilst servicing the car, so I insisted they replace) - they told me that they are VAG parts.

got a price of £45 all in for a set from the local stealer
