Oil Sensor

For the last 10 days or so my car has been saying OIL SERVICE, it flashes when the car is cold and then stops onces the engine has warmed up.
The car was serviced only 1600 miles ago so I thought it was slightly odd. Checked the Oil and it was fairly low but not critically low. Anyway I topped it up with just under half a litre and the dipstick reading now states its full. The Oil Service warning is Stillflashing. Should I be worried or is it a simple case of re-setting the dial or is it more likely that the sensor is playing up.

I was not concerned at first because I thought it would re-set itself after it was topped up but as it is still flashing it is a little concerning.

There have been no oil leaks, smoke or anything along those lines and the car has been running great.

Has anybody else encountered this problem?

Cheers

Ben,

you just need to reset it by........

OIL-Oil service

Press and hold button (A) (Located on speedometer below LCD display)
Switch ignition ON
Keep button (A) depressed until "---" appears in display
Release button (A)
Switch ignition OFF

INSP- Inspection service

Press and hold button (A)
Switch ignition ON
Keep button (A) depressed until "---" appears in display
Release button (A)
Switch ignition OFF
If required clear the "OIL" indicator from the display as previously described

this is from a sticky in the mk5 section.
hopefully you can now get it sorted
