Dear All,

Would like some constructive help. Am looking to swap the 1.4 AEX out of my partners Mk4/6N Polo. I have done numerous engine swaps in the past, e.g. 2.0 8v into Mk1 Golf, 1.8 & 2.0 16v into Mk1 & Mk2 Golf, 1.8T's etc. All of my past has been to do with Golf's as opposed two polo's a mk2 and this mk4, I'm quite new to modding mk4 polo's my partner is nagging me for an engine transplant, I drive a 310bhp Mk5 Golf Edition 30 and a 16v KR'd Helios Blue Mk1 Golf, my partner is getting annoyed with the Mk4. I have an abundance of engines to choose from, having had so much fun with the KR 1.8 16v Mk2 Golf engine I would like to know what if anyone here has fitted one. I've seen a few in mk2 Seat Ibiza's, couple of questions if you have fitted one :-

Do the engine mount locations need to be moved in the bay to account for the KR ?

Does the 020 gearbox fit, if not which box do people use and what driveshafts are required ? Which hubs do I then need to accomodate the driveshafts - mk2 or mk3 golf gti ?

Is it also a matter of splicing the KR loom into the 6N fuse box or is an aftermarket loom available for the transplant ?

If anyone could be of assistance it would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Gareth & Nadine

i had an oppurtunity to do this conversion but got told that it was not practicle/possible as it is a tall block engine and wouldnt reli fit ... i dont know much about it .. u seem more of a pro than me as i have onli thought about the conversion... the engines that apparantly fit are the mk3 golf gti engines... both the lupo and polo gti engines .... that is just what ihave heard .. if thats a bunch of crap then sorry but i onli hope it helps and could do with a lil help on a conversion and info myself!

god the interest in thos conversion lately! its exciting stuff. I have never actually seen or heard of anyone putting a KR into a polo. However, in case you dont know already, the polos sister car the seat biza does house as standard the short block 2.0 16v lump. Therefore it should ft into a polo with some customisation. Im really bloody wantng to do this aswell as ve always wanted my 1.4 AEX to be much more then what it is now and turbos are boring when compared to the raw grunt of an NA car and for all you who may hate on that statement i drive a 56 plate gti on the daily and i had more fun in my mk2 golf 16v thrashing the nuts off it! The whole roaor and beastliness of it is way more fun.

But im getting way off topic as i tend to do. I have never had the oppurtunity to look under the bonnet of a seat biza gti so i couldnt tell you where about the mounts are or how big the engine is etc etc. I have however seen a V5 mk4 golf lump'd polo so theres definately enough room above and below i would think, people also put the VR6 into mk4 polos but apparently its a bastard whore to do, and it puts too much eight up front.

But yeh in all theory mate its possible, cant really answer your questions though as i need to do more research, if memory serves me though i think mk2/3 golf brake setups fit the polo si if the breaks fit so should the rest of it id imagine?

whereabouts are you based mate as if you pull this conversion off i may have to throw some money at you to do it in mine lol
