hi, new on here, i like the site, its very well layed out.

my gf has 1.4 8v, it only has 33,000 miles on it and she says it sometimes cruches going into reverse or first, but mostly reverse. i have driven it today and noticed this, also i think the clutch is quite stiff and feels like its catching on something.

thanks alot for your help, stephen.

when you start the dub up, wait a few seconds then select reverse fully depressing the clutch. Mine use to do it all the while until i learnt that you could not select reverse that fast. also crunches with high revs. You get use to doing it.

yeh you've got to wait a few seconds before putting it into reverse. However if the clutch hasn't been changed in it's lifetime, it probably could do with a ahcnage.

You say the clutch feels like its catching on something? If you can hear squeeks or its kind of spongy and hard then your pedal box may be cracking. The clutch linkage weld is very poor. This needs strengthening or it could crack.

However, this would be caused by excessive pressure so the fault could be a harsh clutch, twisted clutch cable or a bad gearbox.

Reverse doesn't have a syncro mesh like all your forward gears so may crunch from time to time, that's what I heard anyway so could be wrong.

Correct! which is why you need to wait a second before putting it into reverse.
