now not everyoine is in to this, and im not in to steam cleaners, never have been never will be, but general hard graft under the engine way for me says the right things, and finishes off the car showing attention to detail, does anyone agree???? for me its all about the natural lusture and well maintained look

heres a couple of examples, my current car and a previous one, that i have detailed in the engine bays

current polo gti 1.8 20vt

Still ALOT of work to do, i only had APC at hand for that clean. Got myself some degreasing products now. The heatshield needs attention (it'll get colour coded at some point along with alot of other parts) the lockwell and coolant tank are also and obvious state. W.I.P!

Megs all purpose cleaner for all round cleaning
Autoglym engine cleaner for the heavy stuff
Autoglym vinyl and rubber for treating rubber pipes etc.
Chemical guys trim gel to bring plastics up to shine.

I use all these amoungst many various brushes and MF cloths.

for actual cleaning do you just use a brush to get into all the areas then hose it off, or wipe it down with a cloth?

Today I had a spare hour so decided to give the engine bay a quick clean. It doesnt look that dirty in the before pictures but it had accumulated a lot of dust and salt over the winter.

I used some warm water with some car washing stuff in it and just agitated surfaces with a brush. I then applied some Autoglym vinyl and rubber care product to the black plastics and rubber hoses.

Here are some pics:

Whats annoying is the paint on the underside of the bonnet and the engine bay hasnt got any lacquer on it (probably normal) so marks wont even come off with Autoglym Super Resin Polish. Came up fairly clean though.

Aye I feel your pain! Get a few coats of wax on it, and it'll behave better I find.

mine aint laquered too, but its all polished up flawlessly with a bit of effort and hard graft being black its probably not so bad as its still reflective as hell

Looking good guys, need to detail my whole car this summer :)

Jeff, out of interest, how much power did you manage to squeeze out of that XUD9TE? And would anyone be able to PM me a high(ish) res pic of that R134A AC sticker? I'm sure mine had one before, but it's vanished now and little things which aren't perfect annoy me...OCD

Thanks :)

Ash
