or is the idea of spending hard earned cash and loads of free time on a 1.4 polo . .

Im not poking fun at anyone at all, i just think that if u cant afford the real deal, why would you want you 1.4 to resemble the GTI version ? cos when you put yr foot down, everyone will know straight away.

Any thoughts peeps?

in this day and age, who can drive fast anywhere?
so many cars on the road, police, speedtraps, Gatsos, and considering the national speed limit is 70 anyway, then my 1.0 is ample enough for it, considering i've had 100 out of it, ok i could understand buying a Gti for track use etc, but for everyday driving you just want sumthing that looks good, rather than goes fast, plus theres the criminal insurance you have to pay to insure a 1.6 Gti, i currently pay 440 quid a year, which is great
dont get me wrong, i do like Gti's but they are an awful lot of money to insure/run/and buy! when your on a budget

I see where your coming from, just that people always dont give you the benfit of having a nice car, Because of its engine size.

All said and done, your polo is 'Lush' so you aint even gotaa worry :¬p

why bother spending hard earned cash & lots of time on a polo GTI when you could go out & buy a honda civic type r?

Dude, it's NEVER worth it. If you want a good deal, take the bus.

Besides, I don't think the end goal is to make a 1.4 look like a GTI, it's probably more to do with making it look better. Or even faster.

I guess another point is that in some areas of the UK it's pretty difficult to afford the insurance of a 1.4CL let alone a GTI! I know - I had to sell my modded golf when i moved down here, then have waited till I've got 2 years no claims (I'm 25) to be able to justify the 800 quid they want to charge me for a 16v.

It's even worse for the younger drivers. Maybe it's not a case of "afford" it's more a case of "justifying" 2k for GTI insurance....

besides, 4.5k (what i paid for my car) could have got me a subaru legacy 2litre turbo. would you want to race that?!

Well i suppose if you cant afford the insurance, you shouldnt do your car up really, i just dont see the point in slow cars that 'look like they should go quick'. . .and anyone who owns one of these cars, i know for a fact, wishes they had a quicker car, when they get done away from the lights by a Y redge Fiesta banger 1.3 ltr pooper

Anywayz i live right near London, and im 23 yrs old. I pay £700 Fully comp on ma 2000 Polo Gti, i have full no claims and i can claim twice in 3 yrs without it affecting my 'no claims'

pretty sweet if you ask me.

ill race anyone anytime for giggles david mate, as long as its a bendy track, city center, i can keep up with bigger engine cars, its how you drive, not how quick your motor is

Anyone know where to get a chip from for the Polo GTI, Superchips STILL havent had the details of the latest ECU from VW, really annoying cos i want to go faster !!!

a person with a proper fast car would look at a modded polo GTI and think "what's the point in spending hard earned money on that, it's not even quick". and no doubt there is the same conversation on a Supra forum somewhere. you do have a point, but you have to be able to see it from the other side of the coin sometimes. it is all relative....

fair play, u wanna race a 4wd 2 litre turbo then it's your call!

i think brum must be one of the worst places to live for insurance - worse than london for sure.

think of it this way - a 1 litre i used to own cost me 300 to 400 quid a year less to insure than a 16v. own the car for 2 years and you've got 600 nuggets to play with. cheaper tax, running costs and you're looking at a grand to spend. you could get a seriously nice install AND alloys with that kind of money - AND you can transfer them when you get a faster car when the premium is low enough (like i've done). That way you have a car you love to drive and look at, but lacks the speed. 2 out of 3 ain't so bad.

count yourself lucky that you've got such cheap insurance!

ok ill put ma hands up, i used to own a VW Golf 1.3 Ltr, I didnt spend on it though, the wheels were ummmmmm 'off the back of a lorry' and the springs were free from a friend.

i knew i was never going to spend hundreds and hundreds on it, cos i knew i wud regret it in the future. Still i hear wot you say mate, cos i no doubt did the same, thats why i have full no claims etc n that now. I would just advise people dont spend Thousands on there 'little engine' motor, cos that money could be saved and spent on there fast motor when there older.

haha about racing the Sub, ive already raced a few, naturally there the straight line kings, and i cant compete there, but anywhere Bendy with loads of corners, i keep up with more than my fair share

Anywayz i might be buying 'Harry's wheels off his Red polo gti, thing is i can only afford to go to £350, im just hoping he takes pity on me and lets me have them for that price

Originally from Haworth - up north. Used to go out in Leeds a lot. Moved to Brum after uni (the car industry is supposed to be down here ) and got shafted for insurance - I'm passionate about insurance and just how darn ridiculously expensive it is... Yardley Wood (where I live) is a high insurance risk rating and yet it's nowhere near as bad as the rest of Brum... I didn't spend much on my golf either - I got bits second hand and worked from there.

I happen to agree about spending thousands on a slow car - now that does seem odd. I guess there's a line somewhere and it varies from person to person.

I take it you like your GTI then..... I like the mk5 look, just can't afford to buy one or insure one yet! My new wheels must come first!

Yea i love ma GTi, i wasnt really going to keep this car, it was just bought because i needed a car to get around in, imported it from Denmark for £8k which is a cool price i thought.

Now ive owned it for a while though i think im gonna have it for a year or so, then move up to something a bit more 'respectable'

im just not sure wot to get though, had my eye on an Escort Cossie, but then again, the new lotus looks quite nice !!!!

But then the other day i saw this lush R32 cruising down my way and that kinda stole it for me, im partial to VW's they always seem to make 'solid' cars.

the R32 comes with 237bhp, bu simple mods, chip etc u cang et them up to 350bhp no sweat.

Wot you reckon, is it about the R32?

just leave us low end power car's alone
we are in it for the fun of modding cars, and i bet there are alot of people on here with a 1.0-1.4 who have carried out extensive mods, myself *cough*
but i still have fun in mine, especially now i can take roundabouts at high speeds but i must say that there is a certain lack of right foot oouumph, but if you can cast that aside for a moment, wack up the tunes and just cruise, then going fast is the last thing on your mind!

I guess were different, i dont bother with big sound systems loud enough to blow out the windows, i leave that to my friends lol im a bit of a speed freak i guess :¬P

Well the R32 is a heavy looking car, well worth it, just gonna be a problem getting one considering they only made a limited amount !

i like it you go on about doing up a small engine car and not haveing the speed then you go and say that lol classic

Personaly i don't want me little polo to do 0 to 6 it 6 seconds or anyother car for that matter, what counts for me is the injoyment of haveing a nice looking car and haveing fun with it for some ppl that mite be going so fast you will never need anti rincel cream again but hay i not about to say i think its silly cos i not see the point in trying to brake the sound barryer with a ya own car

ps i do love them new civic Type-R's loads of um about ..
