MK2 Alternator Problem
Posted: Sat Feb 28, 2009 1:09 pm
Hi guys and girls this is my first post on here so be gentle.
Right, OK, I own a 1984 Mk2 polo C with a 1.3 HK engine. The problem I have is that I need to fit it with a new alternator. The car is currently fitted with a BMW alternator (don't know why?) and the connections have been changed for that unit and don't match the fitment with the new 55amp one I ordered form the UK. I have provided photo links to the new unit but I have a number of questions that I would really love to be answered. Here's the pic links if there is a problem with your browser:

Questions I have are:
1> Is this even the correct alternator? (It's a 55 amp unit)
2> What cables fit to which connection? The BMW unit currently has two thick red leads and one thinner light coloured lead on an incompatible connection.
3> Is it better to source the proper connector and wiring and do a re-wiring job (ie back to origional) and if so, any ideas where I might be able to get the things I will need?
4> What is the black extra connection for on my new unit?
Only problem I really have is that I'm in Cyprus not the UK, so scrap yards are out. I can however order anything I need. I have peviously owned a few TR7's and older Fords so I'm not a total newbie but then again I'm no professional either LOL
Thanks in advance, I'm really pleased to be here!
