Speeding fines / Getting caught

Last night i was driving down a road with a 30mph limit, stupidly not paying attention to my speed (just came of the A2) because i was talking to my gf. Was doing 40 and then JUST noticed police man standing on the pavement, as i braked he just pulled out the gun, now can any one tell me what the gun was doing (i know this sounds stupid but i dunno whether it's for speeding or what ever) AND whether i'll get done for speeding or not?

I think they would have pulled you over there and then.

you might have got away with it if he wasnt quick enough with the gun, especially as u were braking.
you've got 14 days to worry about it and after that you're safe

I was caught by a police car with a radar gun doing 97mph on the M5 last June.
There was a Police Volvo on the hard shoulder. I slowed down and pulled in once I saw it starting to pull of as I knew I'd been caught.
They pull you over, and you have to fill in a form.
If they haven't done this you're fine. You lucky bastard.
