How do you remove the rear view mirror?

How do you remove the rear view mirror? Read somewhere that if just twists off but really cannot budge it?
Anyone know? have a new mirror to go on.

IIRC You should be able to put some rag around the 'tube' where it connects to the glass and use some mole grips and a small anti clockwise turn should release it. There is a picture somewhere ill see if i can find it.

A hand twist to the left of the base will remove it. No need for grips or anything. JUST DONT PULL ON IT!!! or you will shatter your windscreen and will be very angry lol

i stand corrected, never had mine off!! think i need to get rid of the 'gay oem cream' as i read on here

lol thats a new one for me, but yes, a black mirror makes a huge difference!
