Hi,
This is my first post on this forum, I've been sorting out my girlfriends 1.2S lately, she has had a couple of problems, the infamous leaking rear window washer "It's never worked since I've had it!" (she's had it for a year ...). Queue lots of mold scraping and scrubbing of carpets to remove the funky smell (it had gone at the joint right above the electrical connectors in the side of the boot) anyway, on with my current problem...

I had replaced both headlight bulbs back in January (a painful job), in the dark, with a mobile phone for illumination, with some sleet thrown in.... and the nearside one went cloudy after a bit, I thought it was just condensation, but after a look on Sunday it appears that the bulb had slipped backwards and melted the plastic mount/clip thingy, and the cloudyness was in fact smoke residue, Oh Dear! So I have ordered a new unit, and I'll get some bulbs aswell, I'm just asking if anyone has replaced a headlamp before and has any advice on how to do it??? Because I don't think these Polos were designed to be worked on....

hi, i had the exact same problem, my headlight went cloudy and needed to be replaced. As for replacing the headlight its not such a hard job as each unit is mounted by 4 torx screws (i think thats what theyre called), but to be able to take out the headlight u will need to remove the bumper and grill!

Firstly the gril wil be held by a couple of screws which are visible once the boonet is opened and then u should be able to pull it out from the bumper; but try not to wiggle it to much as you may breakl a few clips.

As for the bumper theres a lot more torx screws that need to come off; of the top of my head; a few in each arch, 3 where the grill sit, 2 tucked away in the lower grill, and a few more under the bumper. once all these are out, unclip the bumper from the headlights and then you should be able to pull it of; its easier with 2 people but can be done with just one

Hopefully from here u can see the 4 screws for the headlight and its pretty simple from ther one just make sure u discnect the headlights wiring loom before u go yanking it away

Pretty much spot on there mate. You don't need to completely remove the bumper you can leave it hanging to save time just remember to clip the side parts of the bumpers in at each wheel arch or you will need to remove all the screws again. As for the rear wash wipe system it is a pain the in arse. try and get some petrol pipe clips metal ones and put one on each side of the conector at the wheel arch mounting bracket, make sure you have the pipes on each side fully clipped in and tighten each petrol pipe clip up till solid. this will sort the problem at the wheel arch. the other problem is in the tail gate its self take car and time to remove bottom plastic cover as easily broken and costly to replace.

Once this is off and out of the way find the pipe and remove it from the conector if it is not already separated from it already again use a petrol pipe clip and put the pipe back in positiom clicking it in and them tighten the petrol pipe clip up till solid again. use some tissue paper or the likes to dry up areaof the washer fluid. and replace the plastic cover carefully. When using screen wash make sure you use a strong mix at least 50/50 and this should give you years of hassel free screen washing. Cheers Sandy
