D'oh! Fitted RHD "Euro" stubby and now I can't see!

I think this has come up on here before but I'm damned if I can find the thread...
Fitted a "Euro" stubby wing mirror tonight with some help from my friend HoppyGTi (bought from German eBay) but there is little adjustment in the range of movement of the glass to get a good view.
I've got it so that I have got about 50% car and 50% rear-view but could do with a bit more to be quite honest! When we had both mirrors in bits we looked at taking out the centre pivot thingy (the round part that the glass fixes to) but it looked like, when we trial-fitted it, that the internals from the standard UK mirror would leave the glass sticking out too much if fitted to the German mirror!
What have other stubby mirror owners done to resolve this problem?
Cheers!

I don't understand why you have this problem

Mine is completely fine.

Mine's completely fine also. I've heard of the problem before though.
Give this one a read Si:

A guy in that says he used the baseplate from his standard mirror on his new LHD one.

We were going to do just that, use the standard base plate and the new stubby mirror parts. I think though, that because my German eBay sourced mirror is not genuine VAG, it doesn't match up properly. The mirror is by a company called ALKAR?

Just wanted to update this to mention that now the mirror has been on for a couple of days, I am actually getting used to it. I can't adjust it any further to see more out of the car but it is not in a dangerous position (i.e. where I can see nothing at all). I think some of the problem is in adjusting to the smaller mirror as you effectively lose 2 inches of glass to see out of

Yeh I never had had an issues with mine, just adjusted straight away. Although My seat is really really far back, so the angle is slightly better!

Pretty much related so thought I'd bump this thread!
Anybody got any easy ways to get the plastic casing off to spray?
I've done the passenger side (by utter fluke) just un-did the screw in the bottom, and managed to wiggle it about and get the case and the little black curved piece off with little trouble. But the drivers one isnt moving, even though its exactly the same bloody thing lol

I found removing the mirror first helped. Get a flat head screwdriver behind it on one corner and gently pry it off, then have another go at the cover.
