i am currently refurbing my BBS RXII wheels, following that great guide bstardchild did. just a silly question really im gonna get my centres powder coated, will this weaken it at all, becasue they bake them in a oven once they have powder coated, does that weaken them at all, proberly not as other people have done it but just want to make sure before i do it.

I've just had a set coated by a Wheel referb company. I wouldn't of thought they would of done it if there was any danger of it wakening them. so you should be fine :)

Mine are slightly different to the normal. Instead of polishing the lip mine have been 100% powder coated, for extra durability and due to the fact I can't be arsed to polish the rim very week to keep them looking sweet.

No they'll be fine mate. If you scratch your head about it for long enough if you may figure it does, but it would be so insignificant it wouldn't matter for a car this size.

Powder coating is fine matey. Its probably the best form of alloy refurbishment. I had mine split 2 years back and the centres and lip powder coated in silver and they have been excellent, although corrosion is starting to appear around the bolts now and a due for a another refurb soon

Certainly won't be any more hassle than cleaning a set of RMs os RSs per say.

they'd look like this:

Polishing the centres would be a pain in the arse.... you would have to get the powdercoat shot blasted off... then sand/polish out the bead marks....

I have two sets of BBS rims.... If I can find the motivation... one set will have polished rims and standard powdercoated centre... the other set will have a charcoal/dark silver powderocated centre with a shiny silver powdercoated rim... to make it look like there is a difference in materials/finish...... A lot of work though!

just a another quick question on the thread that has the guide to do the refurb one guy asked this question "when you got them powder coated did you get them stripped coz iv bin told if there made out of magnesium they just crumble away in the stripper? how wer yours stripped? thanks" and no one gave him an answer, now im thinking of striping to paint off the centres and the rim without spliting them first good or bad idea and does using paint stripper damage the centres

The centres are not magnesium... they are cast alloy... so go ahead and use paint stripper on them... IMHO if they have been powdercoated (which is the norm)... using paint stripper wont do much... you need to get them shot blasted to remove the old powdercoat... It would take a LOT of work to polish the centres up.... get them re-powedercoated in a colour of your choosing!
