I've just had an old set of wheels powdercoated. They've come out loking like a new set of wheels. As I mentioned in another post the entire wheel has been powder coated rather than just then centres, Not sure if this has been done before, I couldn't be dealing with polishing the rims every week. I'll put up some pics when there back together.

Anyway onto the pointo f the post,

Putting them back together, I've blasted out the bolt holes with compress air but afew are still very stiff I don't want to snap any bolts.

Does anybody know the tap size I'd need to run into the holes to clean the treads up?

I "think" they are standard M6.... il check later when I get home if you still dont have an answer....

And yes, the winter wheels on my polo are fully powdercoated rims and centres...(they need doing again though!)

If you have powdercoated centres I would highly recomend you fit a washer on each of the rim bolts...that way you wont tear/crack the powdercoat when you do the bolts up...thus preventing water getting in!

It is also adviseable to check th torque of the rim bolts periodically.... if the powdercoat starts to degrade under the bolt head and falls out as powdery stuff this effeectivley loosens the bolt as the bolt is no longer tight against the surface....Been a few nasty air accidents caused by paint on mating surfaces!

Thanks Mate, Sounds like sensible advice.

I've already build 2 wheels, so will look at getting some stainless steel washer for the other two.

Im sure they are M7 which is a proper strange size. I would like trying to find a tap for that lol. I am refurbing mine atm and need some new bolts. If you have a look on just mats they are for sale on there and they are M7x1.0. Prob not the news you wanted to here.

Cheers you can get M7 Taps there plently on ebay. I have a friend who'll probably have one too.

The just matzbolts are ok, but their stainless steel rather than titanium. I have a few spare BBS bolts luckly.

The just matz bolts shred if you apply too much torque on the final tightening - the teeth just disintegrate.
