I have recently started getting a Yellow warning light (Engine management light) which only pops up occasionally!
Last time It was on due to a failed coilpack and it had obivious symptoms.....
whereas, in this one the engine sounds healthy and no noise is heard........

From, previous findings it has been pointed towards a bad EGR valve........but again have no way to confirm it unless I take it to a VW dealer which I dont wanna as it will
cost the earth......

So, should I go ahead I change the EGR valve myself with help from haynes manual??????

could be the cam sensor these things go faulty on a regular basis the car will run fine but the light remains on. best to get it in to vw fault fault diagnosis.

Could even be the break light switch, I have the egr, lamba amd the switch all go with the same light on the dash.

Wot do mean by break light switch?????

Well I have bought VAG-COM from ebay which comes with a software+connection lead............................so hopefully it will show something!!!!!

Right bought and ran the VAG-COM .......HERE are the results.......

No clue what it means......

Hi, don't take my word on this as i've never used vag-com before, but it looks by the data on the screen grab that you have;

1) A faulty coolant temp sensor.

2) A Battery that could be on it's last legs.

I'm sure the guys in the know will be along shortly to either confirm what i've said or tell me im an idiot and to shut up

Either way, if your not sure or confident about what your doing, get a garage to check it out!!

Dont want to take to a garage yet......but my plan is to clear all the error codes and start again with a clean slate as the error codes could be old ones.......although not sure

Always worth resetting the DTCs and seeing if they come back before worrying

What a load of rubbish blah blah -------. Well not really, I'd reckon that it would be best plan to replace the engine coolant temperature sensor - buy a new seal for it and maybe a new retaining clip just in case it disappears (gets lost as its black!), after that clear the loaded codes as suggested already as you don't know how old or what caused the other one and it might never return. Actually, if you are either an anorak or a sensible person, why not print off the fault screen for posterity?

Dont really understand what you are trying to say here ^^ but I printed the fault codes anyhow for furture reference!

Well I have now errased the fault codes and the light hasn't been up since so I am hoping it was an old one!!!!

Yes printing them off for future referance is what I meant! I was just covering all thoughts on that suggestion, I'm sure some people like to just feel the power of getting rid of faults by erasing them - without actually sorting out who the codes were logged - that's all.

Both logged faults were intermittant, so if I were you, I'd take a look at the engine coolant temperature sensor, and if its got a black body then I'd replace it as its a known problem part and it has been revised - a differant colour to identify that it is theh newer one. I'd leave the other fault to develop just in case it was due to a discharged battery at some time in the past.
