detatch the handles and completely pull off all the outer coating, i.e. the layer thats flaking off, then u got urself a nice shiney handle that cant possibly flake again ;)

I've never had a problem with mine? I replaced them shortly after purchasing the car and they've remained perfect ever since.

although my girlfriend has somehow managed to start peeling the passenger side

ah Tim rookie mistake.. u obviously spend too much time with ur eyes on the road rather than making sure ur passengers are behaving in the car lol!!

Ah ive regularly got passengers that can cause them to flake... am afraid either a vinyl wrap or gloss black spray is in order... i cant see them looking any good just tking the soft feel layer off

I reckon taking the top layer off would look better than spraying them.

Try it and see though, as you've gotta strip it to spray it any how

I've painted mine and they came out quite good, although some bits have started peeling.

I'm thinking about possibly sanding them back to a matte finish......... or would that not work as well as i'd think?

Hey, resurrecting an old topic and all :P does any one who has sprayed the handles have any photos? I'm seriously considering doing mine just wondered how far to extent of spraying went etc.. just the inner handle bit, the outside bit and how if both did you get around the issue of the mirror switch, don't really want to paint over where the light shines through ;)

Cheers!

I just bought replacements from VW, they seem to be a different material. Not expensive at all for the complete set.
