On the way home from university yesterday afternoon, I had stopped at a roundabout and an old man in a Volvo went in the back of me. At first glance it looked like the Polo didn't come out too bad but the bumper is ruined and it looks like the piece of metal behind it (don't know the technical term) is bent as well.
I was wondering if anyone knows what the chances are that it will be a write off. As I said, it doesn't look like there is a huge amount of damage other than the bumper but my girlfriend crashed her car recently and it was barely scratched and they wrote it off!

This one kinda shows the bent metal bit, as you can see, the plastic (which is obviously in front of the metal) is jutting forward..

Seconded, get whiplash sorted fast, it can be a pain in the rear!!! That could probably be repaired by any half decent panel beater, as long as the chassis/roof/floorpan isn't bent. I had a shunt to the side in my old polo, and all of the above happened, despite only being a light shunt!

Isn't claiming whiplash a very long and complicated procedure though?

Who cares if you have a bad neck get a claim in as it may just bug you for the rest of your life. From what I can remember University was a long and complicated affair, are you going to give up Uni ?
Stick with it friend and I hope the Polo survives the insurance assesor.

i know someo ne who mentioned they had a stiff neck (unrelated to the incident) n got a check for 2k a few days later!! tell them your dead n see how much you get

By looking at the picture of inside your boot, I'd say that was a write off mate. If I'm not mistaken that's not just your slam panel you've dented, but also part of your chassis. could be wrong though.

what and dickheads tht drive into back ov ya int part of the reason. ive been wantin someone to crash into me for ages so i can claim, few years ago got crashed into, had whiplash, claimed for it n recieved 2 grand coz i was of work for 3 weeks. plus not to mention the money you will get for your car

Just heard that it is indeed a write off. They've offered me £817 for it which I didn't think was too bad considering she was never in great condition.
So, what do I get next.. Hmmm...

do you realise just how ridiculous you sound? do something useful in life so you don't have to claim money to get by..... why would anyone want to be potentially hurt just to earn some cash?

Dan - front chassis rails and rear boot floor are usually a write off in a sub £1500 car. hope you get a nice new motor and all the insurance hassle sorted.

I'm thinking maybe a Polo GTI

which model of gti? a 6n2 or one of the 9 series?

a 6n2 would just feel like a newer upgrade to your 6n but with nice power
just watch insurance, as this can be a pain especially having to say u had a claim
