Im also looking to get some for my 1.2
In that price range your aiming at some good branded ones.

Weitec, Eibach etc.

All depends on how low you want it?

I cant really fault my AP's ive got £345, give a nice ride, great handling. Only thing that might bother you is the backs dont really go down far enough.... but im buying shorter springs for £50.

my mate swears by KW and H&R coilies but they are quite expensive.

Fks are quite good but my mate wasnt happy with the quality over them compared ot the APs. APs were better built when he compared them.

the Weitec ones seems decent for the price, i dont really want to go any more than 600. noticed the FKs come with shorter drop links aswell, i take it these are needed?

oh, also, how do these wee motors do when you lower them with regards to inner front tyre wear? is there a camber kit available or is it an eccentric top mount job?

I havent got shorter drop links on mine (have heard mondeo ones fit and are slightly shorter).

I get quite a bit of inner tyre wear tbh. When ive been driving people have noticed its got slight camber, more on the front than the back.

I have the Eibach Pro Street fitted and don't get any inner tyre wear, fit the solid curpa console bushes and that normally stops any wear.

Got my tracking done after fitting and only the drivers wheels is less than 1degree out with standard drop links

yeah i heard the mondeo drops fit but you can get the rightones for 40 quid off ebay so....! or chop and weld the originals lol.

had a look at they AP coilovers there aswell, they all seem to have much the same spec, same drop heights pretty much and circa 25 - 30% uprated damper rates. you usually get what you pay for tho BUT if i went for the APs i'd also be able to get the wheels i want for not much more than what i am willin to pay for just coilovers so thats kinda swaying me a little

what are console bushes BTW? is it bottom arm bushes or something :?:

APs are made in the SAME factory as KW and we all know how good the built quality of KW are

Are the cheaper coilovers any good?

There are the hottuning ones on ebay for less than £200.

These ones too http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-COILOVER-VW-P ... 2c514890ff

Quite a few people run them cos they go mega low. But ive heard mixed reactions about their ride comfort. some say its ok, others say awful.

My mate has them on his 6n2. We went out in mine (9n) which is on APs and he says the difference is amazing.... He had his up for sale as soon as he got in the house lol.

well im leaning more and more towards the APs myself now due to the lower price and having heard a few folk saying that they are pretty decent for the money. also means i'll have some spare cash left over to sort the wheels out, plus replace my mirrors cause the are stuck solid and wont fold in which annoys me!!!

As said previously the only thing i dont like about them is the backs dont go low enough. Ive even got the adjustors out and imo theres too much arch gap still. But it might be enough for some people. Its all down to how you want it. Im just buying shorter springs.
