for some unknown reason my gti has the crappy normal twist and turn heater controls and i would really like the climatronic set up but what would be involved to convert it over?

What reg is yours? Some of the early GTIs didnt have the fully automatic air con. To upgrade it, you would need a new Auto HVAC unit, the climatronic controls, all the wiring and possibly a few other bits. Its a rather big job, and could be costly unless you can get your hands on a GTI write off.

mine is a 00 havent a clue when it was sold as the tax book just says it was imported to ireland in 01
and i always like the look if the climatronic so if i could find a write off with a sunroof it would make it worth my while to travel over and get all the parts

Could be an early 00/late 99 spec then. Aye, it could be done, but itll take time and thinking

Hard to say. Climatronic is nice, but theres alot to it - outside temp sensor, sunlight sensor, interior temp sender, all the auto control flaps etc. Id stick with what youve got - it could all go t**s up and then you could have no air con

It looks nice.... but I personally find it very annoying..
Would actually rather have simple control knobs... rather than let some computer decide what to do....
And as an aside... anyone know why VW put the climatronic controls right down at the bottom near the floor... you have to take your eyes completely off the road to look for the right button...GRRR!!!
