just want to see if this has been done or if it is even possible.
but can you fit the diesel box off the 1.4/1.9 6n2's onto the gti engine?
from my previous car the ford range mainly zetec's you could take the diesel boxes off and fit them straight onto the petrol ranges. people mainly did this as they are suppose to be stronger boxes.
just had a chat to a mate and he says that yes it is possible, which ones fit?
if anyone could shed any light would be good as im new to the vw's

The GTI has a larger bore than any other model, so its pointless...plus the exhausts are all the same. Theres no quality issue unlike the ford engines!

Lol at me
Gti has different ratios and an electronic diff lock which no other box has. Regsrdless of model they are all rubbish.

I belive i had a diesel box in my old gti and the ratios were ridiculous, wasen't a smooth change from 1st to second, and i had to change in 5th doing 45 mph

well i think mineon the way out so im looking at other options as everyone knows tey are prone to breaking easily.
are the diesel gearboxes stronger?
and ford engines are sound by the way its the bodywork that will die before the engine

As said earlier, no, they are all the same and have weak diff bearings. The only difference is the ratios, and EDL on the GTI boxes.
