Has anyone modified their air filter on their 9N? I am thinking of getting a new one for the "ROAR" but would like to know how difficult or easy it is to do.

Roy.. K&N drop in panel is good enough, don't try the i-kit.. it draw hot air from the engine

Best one to go for is the second generation K+N or a viper, (although a lot more money).

A drop in filter may work better, because as DJ says, you're more than likely to have hot air coming in

Here is the website for K+N http://www.knfilters.co.uk and there is a search tool to find places that sell them.

I think you can order them through Halfords too.

The drop in Filter will be the same size as your stock filter now, but will look something like this : Image

Thanks Scorpio, ur a star. Will there be much of a noise coming from this type of filter?

From a panel filter you will hardly notice any difference in sound, but the engine will seem a little sharper and a bit smoother.

With the induction kit you will get the noise, but like I said before also the warm air. Kinda catch 22 :?

I fitted a K&N to my FSi about a week back now. Made the car more responsive and upped the fuel consumption (50mpg to 52-57mpg) but I didn't notice any raspier sound...well, perhaps a little more raspier but nothing to write home about.

Bear in mind my car is chipped, so whether it was the SKN chip or the K&N (or both) upping the fuel consumption I don't know.

I've just fitted mine now. Havn't had time to try it out yet though.

Very easy to fit, at least on the FSI. about 10 mins, 5 mins of that looking for a screwdriver :P

I'll let you know how it goes!
