Hi, i'm just new to this site but have been doing a lot of searching about for info on mk V Polo GTi's.

Looking for a bit of advice please - the car is a 2000 W reg, black 3 dr with 41000 on clock for sale for £6995. has full service history, and will get serviced, MOT'd etc. Also comes with a 1 yr VAG warranty.

Problems i spotted on car were broken fog light, noisy rear wheel bearing, spongy brakes, clutch pedal was like pushing on a sponge (but went into all gears no probs) corroded wheels, and a few small dents/scratches. All of which would be sorted if i decide to take the car.

Are there any other things i should look out for, and is this a fair deal.

Thanx in advance.

Del.

I bought my GTi back in September 2003; 2000 W, black, 3-door, 51,000 miles with a full VWFSH and one previous owner - I paid £7500 and like you also had a service/MOT done for me along with the standard used car 12 month warranty so I reckon you're getting a good deal if the faults you have spotted are going to be fixed!

As for other problems I can't really comment too much, but make sure you test all the electric toys - windows, sunroof etc. I've had mine back to VW for a nearside leccy-window motor and an offside leccy-window switch a couple of months ago, all repaired under warranty thankfully. Apart from that... the usual pedal box checks I guess?

Hope this helps...

Must be about the right money. I have just brought one the same spec for the same money with 6 month tax thrown in. I pick it up tomorrow :D

Cheers, does anyone know at what miles the timing belt gets changed on a GTi?

Don't get me started on timing belts... :x

VW reckon 60,000 miles or the 60,000 service interval if that comes first - my car had only done 53,000 before the cambelt tensioner gave up when I was on my way to Bridgnorth... luckily not too much damage and fixed under warranty but could have been worse!

On the plus side my 60,000 mile service is in May and I won't have to pay for the timing belt to be changed because it was only done a short while ago! And on that note - anyone have a ballpark figure for a service from a VW dealership? I'm conservatively budgeting £250 to cover it :? is that about right?

Cheers
