Windscreen chip

Ok - i got my new 2007 Polo on Tuesday - and only noticed when I got it home that it has had a stone chip repair to the windscreen. Drivers side a bit above and to the right of my direct line of vision. Can't believe i didn't notice on the test drive. Anyway - although it has been repaired it looks a bit like a diy job as the chip is still quite noticeable (once you spot it!). I bought the car from a VW dealer - do you think it's worth contacting them about it? I think it's borderline whether it would pass its mot next year as it is just on the edge of the 29mm across drivers line of vision diagrams you find on glass repair websites and measures about 10-11mm across so could possibly fail next year. What would the dealer do anyway - do you think they would replace the windscreen for me? Would a replacement be exactly the same as the factory fitted screen? Am so annoyed - that'll teach me to check every inch of a car I buy.

Update on this - I took the car to an mot centre who said it would probably pass ok. The thing is now that I know the chip is there it's annoying the hell out of me - can I put a replacement windscreen through my insurance even though technically it probably doesn't need replaced for MOT purposes?

Personally, I'd take it back to the dealer and raise hell for selling a three year old car that 'would probably pass' its MOT. I'm assuming that you have a warranty, and given that you've had it for 3 days, it seems unlikely that you would have had the time to get a chip in the screen, make a mess of the repair and then concoct a plot to con the dealer into repairing it. Maybe you're just not as lazy as me lol
Demand a new windscreen or let them pay the excess for Autoglass or someone to fix/replace it.
If it makes you feel any better, I bought mine and didn't realise that both the radio display and n/s wing mirror motor were knackered

Then the idiots ripped off the diagnostic port when servicing it and taped it back on

I don't go there any more...
