Another new owner!

Hiya all,

There seem to be lots of new owners popping up all the time on here.... I'm another one so thought I'd say hello!

My name's Matt and I actually pick my Polo GTi up tomorrow. It's a black 5dr with 35k on the clock and I'm getting her for £6600. Is this a good deal? It seemed pretty fair to me (and especially for a black one.... I HAD to have a black one!)

The sole reason I'm getting one is about three months ago I saw one in the Sheffield train station. It was black, can't remember how many doors, and had modified rear lights but cannot remember much more. The driver seemed to be picking up his wife/girlfriend and baby from the station. I saw it and since then have been trying to find the best deal on one. Anyone know who this is? (There seem to be a lot of them in Sheffield!)

Anyway, just wanted to introduce myself, say hello to all and ask if there's anything I need to know urgently before I go and pick my beauty tomorrow, (bearing in mind I haven't actually seen this particular car before.... some mention of pedal-box issues? What should I look out for?)

Many thanks,

Matt

Hi there

Welcome to the club.

Make sure you ask them for a complete run down of it's mechanical history. Check that it's had it's pedal box done. I'm pretty sure that most GTi owners on this forum have had this problem, so it's very common. I take it you're buying from a VW Dealer? If so, you'll have a years warranty and breakdown cover, so it's not such an issue (but it's bloody expensive if it brakes out of warranty).

Other than that, take it for a good drive. Make sure it's straight and there's no weird noises (whineing from gearbox, humming from bearings etc.)

Make sure it's good decent tyre tread all round, and make sure you ask them if it's ever been involved in an accident.

Good Luck and see you at the Sheffield Polo GTi Meeting when I get round to organising it!

Hi there.

I'm new too, so it's cool to see there are other "freshers" here. Mine's black 25K 3 door. Pick him up Monday.

Can't wait.

If you haven't seen the car before, check the alloys for signs of corrosion, a lot of people, including myself have had these replaced, and they are bloody expensive to buy, bear in mind that most dealers will not replace them under warranty if they are kerbed.
Welcome to the forum by the way

Thanks for all the advice guys - much appreciated, I'll check it over thoroughly before I hand over any hard-earned money! It's actually a private sale (not through a dealership) so I'll be careful as I haven't much in the way of comeback if I buy a real lemon.

Hope to be a regular on here and to chat to y'all soon. Will post again when I've picked her up. I'm rather pathetically excited!

Just a quick question... if it hasn't had the pedal box done does anyone know how much this costs? A rough figure would be handy to give me something as leverage if I want to talk the price down.....

Thanks in advance

Matt
