Hi all,

been on here for a while now, about 6 months, but never had to post as I've always found an answer to my issues. This time though I've not had much luck.

When I got the Polo, it seemed to rev a lot higher than my previous Fabia 1.4 at NSL speeds which seemed odd for a faster car. Recently I've started doing a lot more duel carriageway etc driving, and the revs at speed seem really high. I've read that people can get the wrong gearbox fitted if they have a recon unit, rather than refurbing their own, which is what I think has happened to mine.

What I'm hoping, is that someone can tell me what revs the GTi does at certain speeds so I can compare and see if I've got the right gearbox (the code is unreadable).

In 4th I get:

4,000 rmp at 60 mph
5,000 rmp at 70mph

5th:

3,000 rmp at 60mph
4,000 rmp at 70mph (all readings done using a satnav, so 70 was nearer 80 on the speedo).

If it is out, it would explain the rubbish fuel usage it's been getting too.

That's similar to what mine does I think mate. Same before and after I had it reconned. I just think that it how they are, but it would be nice if they were slightly lower for cruising or a sixth gear like the Lupos!

Had exactly the same rev readings as yourself- and your names' Joe so it must be a bad omen!

I concluded it was a tdi or similar box which was a nuisence
