I was gona buy one of those EcoTek valves, but before I did, I though I'd ask you guys if they are any good.
If anyone has tried them, has one, or has seen one in action, could you please let me know what you think and if they are worth the nice high price tag that comes with it?

I've got one, dont know if it makes any difference or not, as I've always used it. They are noisy though and have a bit of an induction roar. if you want you can try it on your car when we're up in lancaster, to see if you notice any difference. I think I should copy them at home I reckon I could make them for £10 and still make a profit (but please dont ask because I wont do it).

Some people with GT's say they do make a big difference though.

I might stick mine back on when I'm home for the summer to see if it makes a difference. Ecotek have recently been in a bit of trouble with their adverts - check the links if you've got the time:

Are they reasonably easy to install? From what I can see, they simply tap into the brake servo vacuum pipe, but will this mean cutting the pipe?

I didn't cut the pipe on mine - I added an extra section in. To be honest I don't think there's really enough of the standard brake servo vacuum pipe to cut anyway! They come with a full satisfaction guarantee - so if it's crap you can get your money back, but I guess not the cost of postage.

They're noisy even with the optional filter, but apparently do work well on the GT. I'm still not convinced - but before the G40 goes back in my car I'll do some back to back tests once the car's getting used regularly again.

I think I'll give one a go then....

BTW - you say they are noisy, is it a crappy noise, or a decent 'roar' coz if the noise it decent, I mite not get the filter and save quite a bit of money.

Get a vacuum servo pipe off another polo. Disconnect it from the inlet manifold and take off the rubber bit of the pipe from the non return valve (the yellow thing). Its about 3 inches long and you can add this to your current system. Ive got a spare, but Im thinking of buying one again (only sold it cos I bought a diesel)

Okay. My brand spanking new EcoTek valve arrived today. Piece of p*** to install, it's a 15 minute job, exept it took me about an hour coz I didn't have any correct diameter tubing and then I couldn't find any sodding small diameter jubilee-clips.
Now that its on and tuned, I don't think the noise is all that bad. Its basically just a medium rasping sound on overrun.
I've obviously yet to see any economy benefits, but I guess I'll keep you posted.

Because I read that these valves can increase the torque a little I tried one out for my 1.4 8v!
They do help the car pull better when you put your foot down then release is slightly and fuel consumpsion is less also! My friend with a Honda Prelude fot about 17% more miles out of a tank of petrol (from 250 to 295 miles out of a tank!).

The bad news: it noticably de-tunes itself very quickly (although sometimes it's me using kack petrol) and I tend to have to reset it every 3-4 wks.

Overall: it's the goodness and if you're going to be a true petrol head then you should be checking your engine bay (at least to fit mods) at least once a month!
