6n Fuel Problem Help please

Hello People
Right i have a 1996 polo 6n 1.0l and the fuel gage doesnt work it jus says empty evan wen it had fuel iv been told it could be a dodgey connection on the pump under the seat or it could be the senser or summa in the tank please help mee
