K&N Typhoon Induction Kit anyone???

Has anybody on here fitted a K&N typhoon induction kit on their GTI?

Ive seen a few video's on Youtube and I must admit they sound immense, they also look very smart under the bonnet.
They do have an exposed cone though so probably suffer from heat soak

Just wanted to know if anybody has one and how they rate it?
Under the bonnet pics would also be appreciated :)

You could always get a decent peice of pipework made up ben.Locate the filter nearer the bumper and have some heat guarding around it to reduce the heat soak.A wopping cone filter and the such would be quite sweet and certainately alittle different from the norm BMC.

Yeah a good heat shield would certainly benefit the cone filter.
I do love the BMC induction note but it would nice if it was a little louder, I have been planning on making an Aluminium air intake for the BMC to replace what I have now but the typhoon is tempting me.
I might have to bite the bullet and get a K&N then I can decide which I prefer, the only downside is they cost £200+ which is silly money.

Yeah there abit pricey but i reckon it would be worth it, I went for the louder Pipercross Viper and thats a foam carbon fibre surrounded kit and that roars up nicely.................................

Second hand ones of the typhoon will still be of benifit tho.........

Yeah the PiperCross Viper Kits are a lot louder than the BMC Despite them both being enclosed units.
The BMC is very refined which is nice if your looking for a subtle induction note but having had mine fitted for over a year now i'm looking for something a little louder/more aggressive.

Here's a Typhoon fitted to a GTI in Germany

I'm going to keep looking for a second hand one but if I dont have any joy i'll just have to get a new one.

What you got planned for yours the Bradley? be nice to know what your planning to do with the standard air box.
Am I right in saying you have a Green cotton replacement filter at the moment?

That does actually sound quite impressive dude,if you get one post it up and i think you may be able to tempt me.I didnt really think these little engines could so so sweet.

If you fall back on wanting a Pipercross kit my friend has a brand new one he trial fitted to his ibiza sitting in his gagrage in the box.Nothing really just want to replace the pipe that sits in the wing then joins onto the cold airfeed. The octopus section with two useless bits of piping coming off of it.Yeh im just running a Green cotton Panel filter which does free up the breathing compared to a standard paper filter, just that section of pipe is abit too restrictive.I'll have a play and see what its like.

Yeah it does sound very impressive on that video, certainly much louder than my BMC anyway.
The pipercross kit would be an option but the only thing that puts me off with them is the actual design, they are not very easy on the eye compared to the BMC and K&N kits.

Thanks for letting me know though bradley :)

If you can replace the Octopus air feed with a more free flowing pipe then you should certainly see some benefit, at the end of the day an induction kit is only getting the same amount of air as the standard airbox anyway because its fed of the air feed in wing.

I was also thinking about getting an Oil Catch tank, again not for performance but they look cool under the bonnet and serve a purpose so I might get one at some point.

Yeh ive also considered a small catch tank too.Especially as it will pretty much eliminate the oil moisture fed back into the airbox.

The pipe work that comes on the typhoon will look so good i reckon.Keep it posted dude.

Yeah I had a lot of problems with oil moisture in my OEM air box too, the breather pipe seemed to be leaking excess oil but after changing the hose and fitting the BMC breather filter it cured the problem.

I will keep you all posted with the Typhoon 8)

Sorry to hijack the thread but could someone point out which BMC CDA kit I would need for a 6n2 GTI please? I contacted the company I was thinkng of buying one from and they said "I think its this one" I want to KNOW which one it is please. From looking around I think its the CDA70-130.

Thanks.

Would be interesting to see what on of these looks like on a GTI, pity that guy from Germany hasnt posted a video of the actual setup under the bonnet

Must admit though it does sound awesome!! 8)

Just found this on ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 3D1&_rdc=1

Forgive me if I sound a little silly, but how would this setup actually work/fit on the GTI - to me it looks as if the cold air feed which sits on the left inner arch up to the filter box normally on a GTI has been eliminated and this just looks like a bolt on filter with extended pipework???
