On my GTi at the moment I have 195/45/15 on the orignal wheels but want to go slightly bigger 205/50/15 is this advisable?
I do alot of driving on the motorway and want to reduce the tyre noise coming through.
Help me

No dude that certainly isnt adviseable unless you plan on actually changing the wheels.
1. it will put your speedo out
2. They will look poor with big tyres & small wheel
3. 205 is too wide for those wheels, they are only 6.5J so 195 is spot on really.
It could be done but I think your best sticking to the proper size and invest in a good set of tyres.
Toyo Proxes T1R's, Yokohoma S Drives, Firestone Firehawkes, are all popular on here.

I agree but the places I have been to about my problem with my rear axle have told me that the tyre size is poor.
They are not up to standard with the power and speed of the car

Not known anybody else to have any issues with the standard size mate.
They are fairly low profile with a 45 tyre wall but they are the correct speed rating for that size wheel.
I have never had any issues at all, I have 195/40/R16 tyres on my 16" rims which are even lower profile and havent had any issues with them either.
Those places you have been too are probably just trying to make you spend out on a new set of tyres.

Don't get me wrong I think they are ok, just a bit loud. I wanted parada's but they are 195/50/15. they are so grippy.
I do need a full set for my mot.
The shops were saying that 195/45/15 for a car this fast is not good. They said to have a 16'' wheel, I said NO!!!

195/50/15 should be alright, overall tyre size will be a couple of percent bigger which will put your speedo out slightly but they are never bang on accurate.
I have seen that size fitted before, I always think it looks better with a smaller tyre wall though.
Alot of the lads on here fit 165/50/R15's but that's only if you are the "stretched" look

I don't like that look.
I drive too hard and fast for a go slow look.
I want GRIP!

Is your car lowered or on the standard suspension set up?
Your best getting a set of road legal track day tyres if you want serious grip, expensive but they stick to the road like sh!t

I'm running standard springs at the moment but they have just failed. Making a poping noise when I go over bumps.
I'm looking at toyo's or yoko's.

Can't go wrong with either Toyo's or Yoko's, Ive had both on my GTI and have been impressed with both. Yoko's do certainly last longer though.
