from Friday of last week to thurseday today. My poor little motor has not been having a good time

Friday

Got broken into. passenger side window broken, and window frame slightly bent with a crow bar.
Headunit and purse taken

Weekend

Found some rust on the rear o/s sill. which was ment to have been treated...but obviously not well.

Thursday

the Car is due its MOT in a few days. which ive been worrying about for ages. so my boyfriend thought it a good idea for me to take it in VW for a check over to put my mind at rest.
i thought it would be a quick 15min once over.
2hours later.....

Jack comes up to me and goes 'its not good news baby'
*gulp*

...so heres whats on the sheet

- Both front seats loose --just a matter of doing up the bolt

- Rear fog light bulb blown -- not a problem 49p from my work

- side indicators has weather present effecting beam --dont cost much. and the fact that water got in always bugged me anyway. --all three of my 6n2s have done it attually

- Slight Oil Leak -- new sump plug, and oil....not much from VW so dont mind that

- Front Pads and Disks 70% worn

- Catalyst convertor has been replaced with alternative methods -- been de-catted. not a problem as have the old cat that my mot chappy can put on
(and off after the mot)

- NS F/Outer CV Gaitor split -- was expecting this soon as the other went last year

- Rear pipe to back pipe is split and leaking exhaust gases

- Tyres ----dont get me started! only got the front 2 3 months ago! but they have worn on the inside (car is lowered), they are soft and really grippy.
and i think by the looks of the table on the sheet my rear left one needs replacing.....so ill end up doing all 4. boo



the mechanic fixed my gearbox for me. apparently i think one of the gear linkages had slipped or something. something about something hanging on by one thread. and that if it hadnt been fixed one day i wouldnt be able to put it in gear. going into 2nd gear is a hell of a lot nicer now, so i think it might be something to do with that.

he also topped up my antifreeze and screenwash bottles.

and stopped my exhaust ratterling ( i hadnt even noticed it did lol)


Jack worked out how much all the bits would cost me from VW was something like £140. which isnt to bad. ill have a little shop around. but i really like only using original VW bits.

Thats a pretty bad week, sorry to hear about this.

I'd always recommend genuine VW parts, they last longer, and when you come to sell it buyers love stuff like this.

As above, always try and use genuine VW parts, that way you know you're getting the best!

As for your tyres, have you have your car tracked? As they shouldn't wear down that quickly.

Still im sure alittle bit of sweet talking your BF will sort the car out for you.I'd also use Genuine parts,good quality and as godderz mentions origional equipment and labour helps sell the car.

As Emma mentioned it sounds like your tracking is out reference the tyres, or you could be running negative camber.
Best to get that sorted ASAP because otherwise you will end up spending a fortune on tyres.

for the CV boot you MUST use a genuine kit. I cannot stress this enough as all other kits are of absolutely shocking quality and will not last whatsoever

regarding the tyres the sheet said

Front Right Advisory Outer 3 Middle 5 Inner 2
Front Left Advisory Outer 3 Middle 5 Inner 2

Rear Right Ok Outer 3 Middle 5 Inner 2

what do you think it is exaclty thats made the left wear more then the right?
all four were originally brought together.
when i brought the car the fronts were worn to bear metal (inside)
which i thought was due to it being lowered, and camber and stuff.
Jack had the alignment done when it was lowered and the new alloys i brought him went on
Im deff gonna get every single thing on that sheet sorted asap.
sorry for being a clown. im not goot with that sort of thing and im specially puzzled by the rear left being like that.

Not 100% sure but to me that could have been caused if the tyre was under inflated.It would wear in the centre if over inflated so points to me that maybe you have driven the rear left tyre at a lower pressure than the others.

Either that or you drove around a roundabout far too many times in one go .

My rear tyres have done the same. I started a thred to get help!

It was diagnosed as a bent axle! My arse! I have never smacked the rear axle or hit a kurb! VW wanted £200 to check!

Turned out one shouck has started to fail.

6 mechanics = 6 different answers!

VW are grave robbers at times, that rear axle dianosis is shocking

does make perfect sense attually! bloody useless halfords tyre gauges....i should know better the pumps are returned on a weekly basis for being faulty.

Phoned atuglass today to see where my new piece of glass is (the one they put in doesnt fit perfectly so bounces downinstead of going up first time)
turns out they r getting one from VW which is good. always nice to have original

am getting all the bits ordered today. Jacks been trying to get my to find pads and disks else where. but tbh i havnt had much luck. the few i can find are either not branded (so i dont trust) or are for performance.
Jacks G used to have some from track use on (he brought it that way) and they were shockingly scary. its horrible having ur foot flat to the floor on the brake and they car doesnt even slow! i dont want ones i have to heat up to get a response. cose im not that sort of driver.

should also be able to get some new tyres soon. again thru VW as they get them cheap from a garage down the road.

i hope to have everything sorted in the next few days. as the mot is due Sunday
a few days before my MOT on my SE the passenger side door lock mechanism gave up and the door wouldnt open. that was so stressfull all the things on the gti that need doing dont seem as bad...its just cost getting me down.

got all my bits from VW. was cheaper than ebay/the net. everytime!!

the indicators where £20 off ebay for a pair (£6 more then from VW...you could buy a another one for that price pretty much!).
and all the brake pads and disks i found on the net where double the price of what i paid.
or about the same amount but none branded as far as i could see. so im pretty happy all in all.



question: How hard is it to put the CV boot on????
my boyfriend learns by doing and always gives things a go. hes pretty good at working things out. but if its gonna be a proper g*t then i dont want him going thru the hassel.

Are you saying that indicators are only £14 a pair from VW?

Or are you on about side repeaters?

CV Boot isnt pleasant. It requires you to completely remove the drive shaft, split the cv joint off the drive shaft, remove the old boot, fit the new boot. You MUST make sure you throughly disassemble and clean the CV joint as if its split dirt will have contaminated the grease and cause great damage. It must be cleaned and repacked with new grease provided in the kit and reassembled before putting back onto the driveshaft.

Its difficult and will take a few hours and it makes a bloody mess! If you dont feel confident, definitely get a mechanic to do it.

yeah just the little side ones. i think they are a litle more more normally as i got everything at cost price. but still cheaper then ebay!
i really want all new font lights as they are really weathered and the adjusters in mine broke a while ago. but its soo bloomin expensive

were gonna do the pads and disks on Sat. if it looks like too much...which it sounds. then itll be off to the mechanic!
