HIGH LEVEL BRAKE LIGHT FAILURE

As per the subject line, the high level brake light has stopped working on my wife's 2003MY Polo 9N - I've just checked it out and the light assembly's weather seal has not really lasted too well and has let some water in which has destroyed the power connector and the assembly's pins - so it is scrap and the connector socket pins will need to be revived as well as a rusted off pin getting removed. I will use some proper putty style sealer to stop this happening again. Maybe time to get in there and save your light assemblies instead of needing to buy new stuff like me!!

This happened to mine I got a new light for a rennet off eBay not fitted it yet as the old one has copper grease on it to stop this happening at the moment I'm try to source some voted clis
before I fit the new one. Mine was caught early so it was just surface rust on
the pins

- I only got one warning, about eight months ago I remember that I saw my wife driving her car into the garage, and with the first application of the brakes, this high level light was slower than the ones in the clusters to light up - though on second application it looked okay - so obviously that possible problem was forgotten about.
I think in all honesty, that the light that I took off the car last night could not have been working for much after that point in time - and we think that we look after our cars?
I would have picked it up (just) before its MOT later this month - but that would have been too late to sort it out!

Well, I've now got the new light assembly - cost about £19 so that is not too bad. One of the connector pins "fell apart" when I tried to get it out of the chopped up connector shell, so I just cut off the remains and the other socket pin and grafted on a couple of lengths of wire - after soldering one end of each onto the new light assembly.
