Ok well ive read quite a few peoples progress threads so thought i might start one myself. Not really got much planned at the moment but heres a little bit of info about my car :)

Polo 6n2 1.4 16v (ohh yeah!)
W reg. SE :) (no aircon...sunroof instead)
£1350

As i bought her.....

The bodywork is in really good condition, the front bumper could do with a respray cuz its got like a strange "spotty" effect to the passenger side, but its hardly noticeable and il get it sorted after winter. The wheels are also in great condition, slight curbage but its to be expected.

Had a few problems after i bought it, but i got a months warranty with it so i got them to sort it out. They told me they had just put a new geearbox in, and you could see that it had been changed. but it kept slipping out of gear, refused to go into first etc and so i took it back and got another new one. Researched it a bit and saw that im not the first person to have this!! Also when u first started it, the revs would go high then drop really low, and as i drove it round it would cut out when i slowed down, like approaching junctions etc. So took it back to the garage and they cleaned throttle body etc. That seems to have worked.
only problem im having at the moment it is sometimes struggles to "wake up" - like a heavy smoker in the morning it coughs a bit when i first set off, and as im driving in 2nd gear it really struggles and hardly pulls, then kicks in properly and yanks me forward, then goes sluggish again.... but once you give it a good rev its fine.... so im not too worried but could do with getting it looked at, Luckily my boyfriend has a mate who works at vw and another friend who i vw expert so im in good hands :)

Anyway, frst thing i changed was the grill.... so out with the old in with the new.... got a gti grill off ebay for £22 including delivery, brand new. The seller always has them and they usually go for about £38 so i was quite lucky...

The headlights were in a really bad condition, all dirty inside and pitted. They looked hideous so i started looking at different lights and with the help and advice off a few people, including "6n2 GTI 00" on here.... i decided to go for the gti xenons.

Found a set on ebay - spares or repairs.... the lad selling them wasnt the most helpful but he said they worked whilst on the car but the brackets were all damaged. i asked if they had bulbs but he didnt reply...so i was a bit unsure about whether to get them or not but i thought id hope for the best and try fix them myself, then get a hid kit and use them purely as a shell?!

well i won them for £37 including delivery... and got my bf to work out how to fix them! he managed to use the brackets off my old headlights and fix them onto my xenon headlights with tigerseal. replaced the sidelights with blue/white ones and then hey presto...

Image

They DID come with bulbs...and ballasts.... so i got a massive bargain there! For saying they are usually at least £150 second hand, and a lot more new... im more than pleased!

The bonnet wasnt sat right so ignore the gap above the passenger side headlight.... its all sorted now and they look wicked... :) took it for a little drive last night and i love them! definately worth the hard work.... although not much work was done by me!

Not really sure of what i going to do next. I definately want to lower her.... and id love some new wheels but i have expensive taste so they will have to wait. I was tempted to refurb the alloys thats on it at the moment but im not sure what colour etc.... any ideas?

Also i want to get some new reg plates. i know the german plates are illegal but ive seen some plastic plates with "resin gel" domed letters...are they legal? they say they are in the listing but i dont fully trust these places...alot say they are legal but really they arent. this is the link - not sure how long it will work for cuz they end in a few hours... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/3D-Domed-Resin-Ge ... 3358a6408f

And i think thats about it for now!! all comments greatly appreciated :) x

Very nice start, everyone loves a bargain :)

As for number plates i have got some legal metal pressed plates, you can get them from dubmeister (google it) they need to see your docs etc but they look lovely :P

Looking Good Laura :D
I'm glad you managed to get a set of GTI Xenon's they look great

GTI grill makes a big difference too looks alot fresher now, real bargain at £22 too.
As godderz23 mentioned you can buy legal metal pressed plates from a company called "Dubmeister", they are £15.00 per plate but they look awesome and make a big difference to the look of the car.

Just need to send them the paper copy of your drivers license and the cars V5 Document.
Send them recorded post and give it 7 days and you will have the plates with your docs 8)

As for the wheels I think they would look great in Gun Metal grey, black/gun metal always works well with silver cars.

ooooh dubmeister plates will be ordered in a couple of weeks :) (the bf feels jealous so he's gonna get some too)
thanks for that! how come these ones are legal but the others arent? like on ebay or at shows?

and i saw a set of wheels go for £122 on ebay, which are the same as mine....so im looking around to see what i can get for about £150... seen a few okish wheels but nothing i really like, or but if i can find some that i like il get them and sell mine. if i respray mine do you think that will decrease their value?

The reason the dubmeister plates are legal is because they have all the official stamps on them.
People selling them at shows often dont have licenses and they require by law to have a post code (of where they were manufactured) and have to apply to the rules of the BNMA. Check out the link for more info http://www.bnma.org/bnma_legislation1.htm

About average to be honest, its probably cheaper to get one direct from VW, they do offer some decent prices on some replacement parts.

How come your after another one?

I'm not after another. Just some info for chipmunk :) I rang vw and they aren't too bad but I can't remember the exact price. Chipmunk - ring then and see what they say.

Just seen your reply, I've actually got that ebay item on my watch list but its a bit more than i wanted to pay, the £22 you paid is reasonable though so will keep an eye on the seller you mention thanks.
Mines just got a standard dark grey plastic one, but should have a red one. I do quite like the gti grill though, matches the honeycomb lower grills. Wouldnt the ones direct from VW have the gti badge on them?

so just a little update - im still having trouble with the car when i start it. got the bf to look at it and he said the coil pack is knackerd.... also one of the HT leads was in really bad condition so got a new one of those today, and ordered a new coil pack so that should be here in a few days. Im hoping this will be the end of the chokey stuttery crappy car that ive had to cope with for so long now! you can see the sparks from the lead to the coilpack.... my bf sealed the coil pack hoping that would sort it, as it had a few cracks in...but it hasnt helped so ive just ordered another one.

fingers crossed! :)
