For the petrol owners :
Just remove the complete plastic cover from your engine. Disconnect the little tubing that's also connected to that cover.
Close the hood and than go for a small drive (the air isn't filtered so don't drive for a long distance). Enjoy the rooaaar that comes from that little engine

just great.

would the unfiltered air damage the engine?

No. But it wouldn't be great when an insect would be sucked in your engine.

just randomly passing through, and i must say...... bad idea. just the one little bit of gravel or passing bug gets in the wrong place (or a dust cloud, water splash etc) and you've now got foreign material in your throttle body, valve train, cylinders.........
i've revved it - stationary - with the filter off before, but only because of an emergency (was seriously down on power and was seeing if a dust cloud driven thru the day before had clogged the filter - yep!)... it does sound a whole lot racier but there's no way I'd even drive my 'shed' that way let alone an expensive new or last-3-years car. Its unlikely you'd get any damage caused that way fixed under warranty if they figured out that was the cause - you've willfully removed one of the important engine protection devices after all! Like taking the fuse out of a cheap kettle's plug in an environment where its likely the thing may get soaked....
borrow an induction kit from a racer friend instead! or hole your exhaust (a good scratch, strong saltwater, wait a week), and see if you can get THAT patched on warranty..
