Temp Sender/Gauge

I recently replaced my coolant temperature sensor from within the engine bay (the little green thing!).
Unfortunately I'm continuing to experience issues with my temp gauge. When stationary the temperature reaches halfway, however when I'm driving the needle drops to almost 0. Any ideas?

Yeah I've replaced the temp sensor already, but the problem remains.
Maybe I bought a dodgy sensor? Or fitted it wrong? Or it's something worse!

Check how hot the pipes on the rad get when the car says its at halfway on the gauge. your thermostat may be stuck open

Yeah, had the same problem. Replaced the thermostat, problem solved. Just make sure you get the original stuff or you.ll be replacing it every week...

Nice one thanks. Is replacing the thermostat as simple as changing the temp sender?
Cheers,

You will need to drain the coolant system before you do it, but it's not that much more difficult to do overall

The coolant takes the most time, draining, refilling... Otherwise it's just a two bolts job...

How much coolant do I need to refill the cooling system?

2 bottles of ORIGINAL VW G12++
The coolant system is 4.7l. You pour the two coolant bottles in first, and then top up with water will you reach max on the expansion tank. Run the engine for 5 mins with the cap off and then top up accordingly.
I cannot stress enough that it must be the genuine VW coolant - its not expensive, but it contains important chemicals and inhibitors which protect the engine and stops reactions with the metal.
Plus it lasts for life - it never needs changing
If you are careful and catch all the coolant, you can just pour it back in again!
