FK AK Street Coilovers - Any Good?

I'm looking at getting a cheap set of coilovers for the GTi (Only temporary until next summer)...

I'm looking at either JOM or FK AK Streets..

I know what JOM are like as I've been in a 6n2 with them on.. Has anyone got or tried FK AK's? If so, what are they like?

You’re probably best off waiting really mate, especially with winter coming up.
Apparently the JOM and other similar variants use really poor materials which are prone to corroding/seizing.

The better brands such as AP & Weitec use Stainless steel so you don’t have any problems there.

JOM's cost around £150-170 for a set compared to the AP's which are around £339.
It’s worth spending that extra £150+ for quality assurances and probably improved ride comfort.

Agree with Ben to be honest. There is no point really in spending money on some cheap coilovers just for winter time.I'd wait a while and get some half decent ones it will be alot more beneficial dude.

Would recommend Weitecs to you anyday.

Well, budget is a factor currently and my current set up is rather crap in comparison to budget coilovers, which is saying something...

I don't have the cash for anything nicer and I can't deal with my current set up any longer....

I know that cheap coilovers are crap and don't last more than around 18months until they start to die unless you really look after them.. My current set-up is far too stiff and need something softer as I live in the pot hole capital and I'm fed up with constant banging.. My mates 6n2 with the JOM coilovers is a 100x better ride on the same roads than mine is currently, so I want some.. I was just testing the water with FK AP's as they are in the same price budget.

What set up do you have at the moment then?
Its understanable changing them if your not happy with your current ride comfort but I guess if your going to upgrade to better coilovers in the summer anyway it might be a bit of a waste.

If your working to a budget though it is understandable from my experience with coilovers they are all pretty harsh.

TA Tecnics spring and damper kit -60mm... Don't get me wrong.. It's not too bad, but, compared to the JOM coilovers the difference is unreal.. I know JOM aren't great, but in comparison to mine over harsh roads they are! £200 now... Plan is run them for 6 months, flog them for £100 easily when I'm done with them.. Plus with what I'll sell my current set up for.. It'll cost me £50 max for 6 months coilovers.. Twisted logic I know, but I don't have the patience or cash to buy better at the moment.. It's a short temporary fix until I have saved enough..

Thatr's fair enough dude, for £50 its worth doing and you should easily get £100 back for the coilovers.
How come your current set up is so harsh though? normally shocks & springs offer a smoother ride comfort.

No idea, I think the are just really really stiff.. and Sheffield roads are unbelievably bad, pot holes everywhere, it's like being off road... I wasn't even bothered about cheap coilovers, like they weren't even an option or consideration, but when I went in my mates with the JOM coilovers I couldn't believe the difference between his and mine.. For the money it's worth every penny.

I've got a set of JOM ones on mine. So far so good, had them 9 months and they have been fine.

We'll see how they cope through the winter though.
