1.2TSI - first thoughts

Finally taken delivery of our very first brand new car - a 1.2 TSI with nearly all the options. A couple of pics in case anyone is interested

Check out that cheeky face!

Alcantara seats which I've had trouble finding pictures of in real life cars
First comment is how long it's taken to to be built, and the lack of updates from the dealer, which is more than likely not their fault but pretty frustrating from our end. Thankfully the car is everything we hoped it would be, and then some!
It seems to go pretty well and seems nippy and responsive. Although we've only done about 90 miles, fuel economy seems OK so far (about 32 miles per gallon according to the onboard computer) despite my alleged lead foot.
More photos to follow if anyone's interested, and if I manage to post these ones successfully!

Thanks for the comments - still excited about having a lovely shiny new car, so have loads of photos. Here are a few more

Will post later with some queries about the multifunction display which the unhelpful user manual has been pretty useless at explaining.

Does anybody know how heavy the new Polo's are?
They seem to be huge in size so I pressume they are packing alot of weight too

Thanks! It's an SEL with:
- Nimbus grey metallic paint
- Alcantara/leather seats
- 17" Boavista alloys
- Sensor pack (tyre pressure indicator, cruise control, rear parking sensors)
- Multifunction leather steering wheel (stereo remote control, multifunction computer)
- Convenience pack (auto dimming rearview mirror, rain sensing wipers)
- Winter pack (heated front seats, headlight washers)
Not particularly cheap, but we've saved long and hard for this and we do like lots of goodies to play with. The car we traded in for the Polo was a Focus titanium with lots of extras (we bought it second hand). The only things we are "missing" from that are automatic headlights and heated front screen. Seeing as Ford appear to be the only manufacturer who sell cars with heated front screen as an option, we were always going to miss out on that if we didn't buy a Ford. The automatic headlights is something I'm missing already, with these dark winter mornings and evenings but to be honest they weren't all that technically great on the Focus - I was forever switching them off in the summer.
I'll post some photos of the display on another thread...

very nice spec, the new polos really do look spectacular! the spec i have ordered is the same, without the leather seats, but in addition, climatic a/c, static foglights, rcd510 radio upgrade + dab, i've got a long wait until it gets delivered though, another 3 months

3 door versions weigh in at:
Petrol
- 1.2 (60 and 70 PS versions) = 1067 kg
- 1.4 Manual = 1070kg
- 1.2 TSI = 1088kg
- 1.4 DSG = 1104kg
- 1.4 TSI DSG (GTI) = 1269kg
Diesel
- 1.2 TDI = 1132kg
- 1.2 TDI (Bluemotion) = 1150kg
- 1.6 TDI = 1157kg
Five door versions are an extra 25kg

Think your car looks great, if I get a SEL I will certainly be going for Boavista wheels and the Alcantara sport seats.
Sorry I can't help on the Dashboard display issue but I think you might be stuck with Km/h display. Something to do with EU regulations about displaying both measurements, mph and km/h and VW adopted to use the small digital display as km/h rather than show the equivalent on main Speedo. (I await others telling me I am completely wrong)
Please let us know how your experiences with Polo as you put a few more miles on the clock.
Do I take it that you had to wait a very long time for delivery. I know the Polo GTIs are taking an age to appear

Yes, an absolute age (or at least if felt like it!). We ordered on 12th June, and took delivery on 19th November, which is a grand total of... 23 weeks. We were quoted a 16-20 week lead time when we ordered, so hoped for delivery in mid-late October but unfortunately due to strikes in South Africa, our build date was pushed back to 7th October (from week 36 which was week commencing 6th September). The worst part of the wait was not knowing if it was built, and when it was being shipped to Emden - the dealer didn't seem to have any info about it at all, and yet I kept reading on other forums about people in the US who had ordered VW Golfs and knew *which boat* their car was on!
Anyway, it was well worth the wait and we're absolutely thrilled with it. Still only done just over 100 miles, so just getting to grips with the handling and gears. One thing that does annoy me intensely is the centre arm rest seems to have been deliberately designed to interfere with the handbrake. Fortunately we found out about this during our test drive before ordering, so it didn't come as a nasty surprise, but it does make you wonder what on earth they were thinking of when they "designed" it!
