Josh, did you car break down, or did you park somewhere you shouldn't?

Thanks to my old VW Dealership for re-fitting my B&M Sport Shifter with a little circlip instead of the meaty clips I provided when they insisted on trying my car with a standard shifter for a while when my gearbox gave up last year...

I was driving in a "spirited" manner last night on the way back from my hot date in town... At 2am.

Overtaking a car on a nice straight road...

Went to stick it into 5th and bosh, the shifter came away from the cable because the little circlip pinged off.

So, I was stranded in the middle of nowhere (proper) at 2am Sunday Morning with my car stuck in neutral.

Good one.

Got recovered home within the hour, and got the car taken to JBS today for repair.

Big thanks to JBS for fixing today...

No thanks to the Dealership for making a poor job of refitting the shifter.

Oh well, it's all sorted now.

Glad to hear all's been sorted.

You should look at the positive side of it, too: having the car break down while you're still with your date is one of the most humiliating experiences for a guy. I should know, I used to drive me mum's Fiat Duna* when I first got my license.











* Fiat Duna: booted/estate version of the Fiat Uno. Prone to humiliating brakdowns especially when it rained, thanks to our tropical rainstorms and the fact that Fiat didn't remeber about them and put the engine air intake way down low in the engine compartment.

stuck in the middle of nowhere, with ur date, and a free back seat, after all the recovery truck will take ages!!

Ah, the Duna, after looking at your pic - that's what was sold as the Regata over here. Didn't do so well, and rightly so - it's a horrible car My dad had one for what felt like a long time when I was little, but probably only a few months. Though I was about old enough to walk, I can still remember bits of it.... the bright red paint (the best part), the constant breakdowns, the dash instruments simply giving up one day so i was fascinated at how we were moving but still only doing zero mph.....

(It was probably the boot that was to blame an uncle up in Cumbria has a mid-80s Uno he's owned from new, pine green, 903cc formula... with an aftermarket cat! (so it now puts out... what... 38hp?) never shown it any mercy, had 80mph average speeds on motorway trips, and its still going on without any breakdown)

Actually, the Regata was a whole different car, based on a different platform. It was the booted version of the bigger Fiat Ritmo (Strada in Britain), predecessors of the Tipo/Tempra duo.

So the Regata was to the Ritmo what the Duna was to the Uno.

They were all awful if you ask me!

its easy to mix them up. both are relatively horrid though the Ragata's one good point as it was rear wheel drive but so is a shopping trolley, both equally as sexy. In such company Josh's hat is the Paris fasion show of the bunch. I thought it was quite stylish actually. as i have pictures of me wearing a lot worse. I mean a lot worse and maybe ill post one up if I'm drunk

Those pics actually make the Duna look bigger than the Regata, and I don't just mean because it's a bigger image - look at the rear door (& window on the duna) and how it/they fit into the rest of the body. Duna appears to be more spacious....

Ahem. Anyhow.

Petrified, oh, why didn't you show the fiat the contempt it deserves and just drive on without the clutch? Kangaroo take offs on the starter motor and crunch-shifts are highly satisfying ways to punish a car that's let you down (as well as being highly satisfying if you get them "right" anyway). Especially only 10 mins away... though I don't blame you getting the AA to drive you all the way back to cardiff with it in that state (plus you get to sit in the truck cab, far more spacious and comfy )
