need a little help folks - few questions

Hi all,

I bought a 9N 1.4 tdi for my mrs yesterday and have found a few issue's with it.

1 - the main beam and the indicator on the front left hand cluster don't work although the side light does. I've replaced both bulbs and it's still the same. the main beam was working when we picked it up, but the indicator wasn't, so when i changed the indicator bulb (which was actually still fine by the way), the main beam stopped working.

2 - the heaters/blowers in the car don't seem to work too good. there's a "hissing" noise coming from behind the dash when they're on. When i put the car into reverse however, the blowers "sound" right and normal like any other car.

Also - i have used vagcom to read for any errors and came up with the below -

The reverse is activating the recirculation of inside air

and are the connectors corroded on the light?

some of those faults could have popped up when the battery was dieing and may not come back if you clear them, as for the re-circ flap code i think thats one of the most common faults ive seen, as for the cure i dont know,
and the headlamp i would go through the motions of fuse checking, then checking the feed with a circuit tester if the fuses are fine, if there is a feed up to the lamp unit then you know you need to be looking at the lamp itself, i think theres an earth wire that can sometimes work its way off in the lamp unit itself, when you say main beam do you mean "full beam" or "dipped beam" dipped being just your normal light and full being the one you use to flash etc, i also remember a wire that had popped off inside where you connect the indicator bulb on a mates 9n,
as said if there is a feed up to the plug for the lamp it will be time to take the lamp unit out and have a look as its a pain fiddling around with the wires inside it when its fitted to the car

cheers folks. the codes have been cleared and re-read and what you see above is the current faults.

it's in the garage now and have asked them to have a look at the electrical faults (the weather is horrendous up here so no point having a look myself when it's going into a garage for a service!)

will post back if the headlight issue/electrical problem helps to clear the blowers issue.

The recirc ones are to do with the Climatic heating system and you may find it can't properly regulate the temperature. I am afraid this is an awkward one to fix, have a search on the forum and you'll find lots of advice on the matter. The problem is it's a fairly time consuming job, IIRC.
