Can anyone shed any light on what (if any) the significance of the "1" on the seats in the Polo GTI is?

I'm trying to talk my wife into getting one, but she can't get past the seemingly inexplicable "1".

Number 1 ie it always wins races

Get a GTI with leather seats, that will convince your wife and prevent any disagreements.

I think the "1" represents the number of brain cells of the person that thought it was a good idea to put it on there.

Leather would be a good option, but 6N's aren't very common down here and I haven't seen one with leather yet. I haven't seen a 3 door yet either. Though there are plenty of 6N non-GTI 3 doors and a few 9N GTI 3 doors and 9Ns with leather.

But who would've thought a big number "1" on every seat would date so quickly huh?

I think you mean 6n2 - 6N GTI was only available on the continent lol

My GTI has leather Certainly puts it in a different class of comfort and design thats for sure.

Where abouts are you based?

There are plenty out there with leather seats and it does transform the inside of the car.

I did for 3 years - in the end gave up and bought a GTi with cloth - I also didn't want climate just AC - gave up on that one too

Personally, I prefer the cloth seats to the leather. I like how the seats match with the red door cards, makes it look a bit different from the usual. Also leather doesn't age very well, does looks brilliant brand new though. The GTis I looked at that were leather look much older and really tatty inside, so I went out of my way to get one with the cloth seats!

The leather trimmed GTI's have matching leather trimmed door cards which ties in perfectly with the dash board and the rest of the trim. The downside to the leather seats is the maintenance side of things and hot summer days when the car becomes like a furnace inside which can be horrendous at times.

I would never swap my leather for the standard seats though, that "1" really lets the whole interior down

And yes, I do mean a 6N2 Gti. I'm still learning these things.

GTI's aren't rare, but I haven't seen a 3 door or one with leather. And almost all of them are silver, followed closely by red with the odd black one.

I think that I at least knew the reason for the "1", then maybe I could find peace with it.

You could always get some seat covers anyway mate

Thats wrong matey, they actually made a 6N GTI for the european markert which was 1.6 120bhp
