After many MANY blood sweat and tears me and a good friend (Tommy)managed to convert the original headlights into xenon-projector headlights.

If it wasn't for Tommy I'd never ever started this crazy conversion :D

Thanks to his skills the stuff works great.

Tommy made a little story (Dutch, sorry) with pictures and at the bottom of the page a little movie (clickable photo) :

Ehrm, don't think so :D

After we finished we decided this was a one time only project. It took us about 20 hours to complete the headlights and another 2 hours install.

Unfortunately it's just to much work.

@swift,

I bought 2 new Polo headlights. 120 euro each. The xenon-set was taken from a BMW 3-series (E46 98-present). The seller tried to make his VW Vento look nice but failed. So he sold me the complete set for only 75 euro ! That was amazing cheap. Unfortunately 1 xenon-bulb was a little bit damaged, so I swapped the lights for new ones. And now I asked Tommy to order 5000 Kelvin xenon-bulbs because the standard lights (4100 k) are just a little bit to yellow.

Can be done cheap, but it's a lot of work.

@Joy

great! I don't mind hard work if it pays out, and this one seems to be just perfect! Do you think it will suit there any Xenon-system e.g. from VW Passat or any other car?

*grins* so when are you going into business and getting us to pay you to do this to our cars then? :D

@swift,

you can use whatever you want. It's just all custom build :-)

I've chosen the BMW 3-serie projector because it's a relative big projector. Your Polo headlight is HUGE so you don't want a tiny projector. Also BMW projectors have got a chrome cover ring which is perfect to mask the nuts and bolts used on the back of the light.

Volkswagen uses Hella lights. Not to bad but BMW uses a different brand (which I forgot) and these lights are much better.

I'll ask Tommy if he would like to make a small guide in English for you projector-lovers :wink:

how much in total did it cost you? :D

€ 75,00 for the xenon-set
€ 240,00 for the Polo headlight-units (you don't have to buy them, but if you use the fitted ones you have a problem when stuff doesn't work).
€ 50,00 for nuts and bolts, small stuff etc.

This is a good website. There are 3 projectors photographed. The Hella is what Volkswagen uses. Bosch is BMW.
