Should your polo bleep/make a noise to warn you you've left your lights switched on when you take the keys out and open the door?

Mine doesn't.

Mine does the same as yours by the way - no buzzer when the lights are left on and the door is opened. Flattened my battery twice before now because I've forgotten to switch the lights off!

If you find out the cause I'd be grateful if you can let us know what it is... its one of those things I keep meaning to get around to but never do!

Any ideas which one it would be? Does it say in a Haynes manuel?

Thought it would list them on the back of the cover but it doesn't.

Looking at the diagram, it looks like it results from a faulty drivers door switch (these have three wires). It can also result in the fuel pump not pre-priming when the drivers door is opened for the first time in a while.
