Hey,
Just wondering what this is called and what its purpose is? Its like a long black bar with 3 points going into the engine block, with 3 connectors on the end of it. I have highlighted this part in the picture.
Cheers
This isnt my actual engine, i have a 1.2 2005 engine, but it looks pretty much the same.

No idea unfortunately, I only know about about the TDI engines
I'm certain it'll be the fuel rail, it's a three cylinder engine and makes sense. I'll let someone else chime in (If I've got some free time later, I'll have a quick look at my Haynes manual and see what I can find out!)

EDIT: They're not the HT leads / plugs are they? Wouldn't expect them to be "behind" the engine, but you never know...

Looks like the fuel rail to me as well.
According to Haynes, there is a valve on the fuel rail to purge air from it. Sounds like this grey valve you mention. It says that, if refitting the fuel rail, you need to loosen it and turn on the ignition (gets the fuel pump going) and then close it again once the fuel is clear of bubbles.
Hope this helps.

Im gonna sound really stupid for saying this but i thought the spark plugs were at the bottom and i pulled it off, but then realising it wasnt the spark plugs, i quickly put it back into place, wasn't easy. I found where the spark plugs were and changed them no problem, but not wondering if i have done any damage to this. The engine runs fine but i just wanted to know about the valve.
here are some pictures of my actual engine guys, i appreciate the help.

Yep, that grey valve looks like the fuel bleed valve that Haynes mentioned. Needs to be closed.

Diesel's use a presurised fuel system to yeah, I'd keep any valves closed!
