Hi I have a 1000w sub running through a 1200w amp and the bass is fine! But the rest of the speakers are poop!
So ive bought some...
Alpine SXE-1725S - 6.5" (16.5cm) Coaxial 2-Way Speakers
Peak Power 220W
RMS Power 40W
Frequency Response: 60Hz-20kHz

What I want to know is..Shall I put these in the rear and get some with more bass for the front and change the tweeters?
Can you buy decent quality speakers without the tweeter on them? All I seem to find is 2-way speakers?? Or would these be sufficent? And also would they just work fine by wiring to the original wires? Thanks Mark

You shouldn't need "more bass" at the front if you're running a sub - they won't be playing any significant amount below the crossover frequency. (you'll be wanting to run the fronts (and rears if you use/have them) in high pass. Where Alpine give a lower frequency response figure of 60 Hz, that's a -3dB figure... not the end of their physical capabilities. You'll be crossing over to your sub higher than that anyway. (60 to 90 Hz)

If you look for "component speakers" you'll find they're 2 ways with a seperate tweeter and crossover.

I have no idea where the crossover is (or if the tweeter runs high pass and the bass/mid is fed full range) in the factory wiring.

Ideally, you should only need front speakers, as the perfect scenario is to have the soundstage spread over the dashboard. Rear speakers are used for "fill" - basically to drown out road noise. (not such a problem in these cars - but a killer in my '92 'rocco)

If you're running coax 2 ways as well as seperate tweeters in the front, you may find it's VERY "bright" sounding. If so, disconnect the tweeter in the coax speakers (unsolder the capacitor mounted on the side)
