Stuck, need advice/help

I'm currently trying to shift the right rear wheel speed sensor from its position, which is proving very difficult.

Currently i have about half an inch of the sensor sticking out of the hole (an lots of copper wire), the rest snapped off when i tried to pull it out.

Also the retaining bolt has sheered off an im left with a stump.

Is the best way to proceed to take the wheel hub off and work on the problems that way?

If so, what is the best way to shift rounded bolts? as both my caliper bolts are very round. :| :?:

Sounds like youve made a bit of a mess lol

Youll need a special nut remover tool to get those bolts undone, but you need to be careful not to snap them

In all honesty, I would entrust this to a decent garage to do as its a pain in the ass getting damaged bolts out.

If things get worse, you may end up needing a new hub.

I will not take any responsibilities if this ends up destroying the world, but I'd get a pair of mole grips :) Those things have saved me time and time again (apart from the recent fuel filter fiasco), just be careful not to get over-enthusiastic.

ABS sensor is hidden behind the rotor on the hub itself

so, if i remove the disk/rotor then i should be able to see the other side of the sensor?

I snapped mine and the hit the bit that was still in with a hammer and screwdriver, was fun pulling all the copper wire out the sensor

Getting the new one in was like squeezing a water melon through a keyhole

yeah, tell me about it! looked like i'd plucked a ginger last night, copper everywhere!

Did you hammer it out from the cable side with just the wheel off?

I'm thinking of getting at it from the other side.

Thanks for the help here,

Took everything apart and smashed the old sensor out with a lump hammer, inserted new one and left the scene!

I'm beggining to hate this car now!

On the way to work this morning the breaks made an all to familiar noise and shortly after the ABS light made its appearence.

The light can be cleared for a good 20 miles or so just by turning the engine on and off. I have not checked the code that is stored as of yet but i'm sure its going to be related to the rear right that i changed last week.

Is there anything i could have done wrong, should the tip of the sensor be an exact distance from the moving parts, mine is within 3-4mm?

It seems all that changing the sensor did was extend the time between the light coming on and me clearing it! if all else fails and i have some other fault, can someone jot down how to remove the bulb from the dash.

Thanks,

Dan
