I looked into this a while back and came to the conclusion that it isn't a particularly easy thing to do. I found a guide where some guy needed to weld a steel plate to the bonnet to prevent it distorting when the gas struts were fitted and decided to give it a miss.
If you do find a way though, I'd be interested in hearing how it goes!

As said not that easy just to convert.
You would need to measure exactly where to put it and work out what power strut you need depending on the weight of the bonnet then mount brackets and weld things. not worth it for what it is.

There are no mounting points on the polo

You did actually get them on some 9n3's
According to ETKA it is part number: 6Q0 823 363 B
might be worth going into the VW dealer and asking

Those are the ball part of the ball-and-socket joint attatchment aren't they? Don't think they'd be too different from the bits used to attach the Boot struts to the chassis..

As said, there aren't any mounting points for the gas strut. The 9N bonnet has them but the 9N3 wasn't designed to have a gas strut fitted for some reason. If you want to fit it, you need to weld in a plate to mount it to, judging by the guides I've seen on the subject. Not worth the effort at all.

I heard a horror story that may be true all false the other day from a VW tech.
Apparently they stopped putting gas struts in bonnets because in a collision they are the only thing that dont bend. there have been incidents of the strut coming through the dash and almost inpaling the driver! no idea if its true or false but if its true I would like to take mine off the golf.

I see a major flaw in this, the strut is on the wrong side to impale the driver
