the seats in my S are ok but not great for a long distance. i heard there was an option for 'comfort' seats? is that true and if so did any cars come with them as standard? ideally i'd like leather seats but haven't found any and to retrim is quite expensive so i was going to keep an eye on some breakers etc

I'm pretty sure the 'comfort' seats refer to the ones that slide forwards so that you can easily get into the back seats of a 3 door. Standard on the Sport/GTi models.

Keep a look out for Sports that are being broken - they have this feature and the extra bolstering of the sports seats which make them a lot more comfortable.

Here in Germany comfortseats are the standard seats. The GT, Sportline oder GT-Rocket polos have sportseats, and the GTI has Sportseats with larger sides. The option to slide forward is called easy entry.

See, I always thought the seats on three-door models slid forwards when you put the backrest down. Trust VW to make this an optional extra

Yeah, think I got confused with 'easy entry.' Rings a bell...

Complete joke how the seat doesn't slide forwards on low spec models though. Standard VW lol
